13th Indian Telly Awards: Best Ensemble Cast
A multistarrer in Bollywood is rarely puts the much desired spotlight on all actors present in the movie unlike the great Indian serials where everyone from the in-laws, cooks, maids to even watchmen get a pivotal role to play. An ensemble cast has always been the X factor of Hindi serials. Let’s check why the below five made it to the Best Ensemble category in The 13th Indian Telly Awards. Diya Aur Baati Hum (Star Plus) When a husband rallied around his wife’s career aspirations much against the wishes of his conservative family, the Indian television audience woke up to a new found social family drama not often seen on small screen. Coming from the coffers of Shashi Sumeet Mittal Productions Pvt. Ltd, this socio-family drama throws spotlights on characters other than the leads played by Deepika Singh and Anas Rashid. The other important characters are Bhabho played by Neelu Vaghela, Meenakshi played by Kanika Maheshwari and Babasa (Ashok Lokhande) form an important fabric of this numero uno Star Plus show. Balika Vadhu - Kacchi Umar Ke Pakke Rishte (Colors) Spearheaded by Sphere Origins, Balika Vadhu has been one of Colors longest running shows spanning more than five years in duration. The story about child marriage has kept viewers hooked for years now. Though the ensemble cast keeps on changing, those stepping in have always lent credence to the storyline never letting anything go astray. Shashank Vyas, Sargun Mehta, Toral Rasputra and Siddharth Shukla play the lead ably supported by Anup Soni, Smita Bansal and veteran actress Surekha Sikri. Mahabharat (Star Plus) Swastik Production helmed Mahabharat garnered great TRPs especially during the time of Draupadi’s disrobing. Given the fact that all Pandavas and Kaurava brothers are important in the storyline, the spotlight never really shifted away from the actors who essayed the important mythological figures. Some of them were Shaheer Sheikh as Arjun, Saurabh Raaj Jain as Krishna, Pooja Sharma as Draupadi, and Praneet Bhatt playing the wily Shakuni. Ye Hai Mohabbatein (Star Plus) Despite the 11 pm slot, Balaji Telefilms has come out with a winner in the form of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein which explores the love story between Tamilian beauty played by Divyanka Tripathi and handsome Punjabi munda essayed by Karan Patel. Given that it’s an interstate love story, the supporting actors including Balaji favourite Anita Hassanandani and Sangram Singh and kid Ruhanika Dhawan too play an important part in this love drama.
