Indian Telly Technical Awards: Writer Sharad Tripathi talks about the importance and transition of writing over the years

Indian Telly Technical Awards

MUMBAI: It gives us immense pleasure to announce that IndianTelevision.com is bringing the 15th edition of our annual Indian Telly Technical Trade and Programming Awards, which recognize the best in television production, editing, writing, direction, distribution, and creation.

We all would agree that the effort of people who work hard behind the camera often goes unnoticed. Hence, IndianTelevision.com will felicitate those who have used their talent to contribute to the small screen.

A show’s success depends upon the writing. The TV industry works on the strength of the pen and fights the battle of ratings through the work of writers.

Sharad Tripathi is considered one of the finest writers on TV. TellyChakkar got in touch with Sharad and asked him about the role writing plays in a project.

He shared, ‘Writing speaks a writer's heart out. What they want a character and a camera frame to look like, dialogues and songs to sound like, and mood of a particular scene to be expressed like. Even the most outstanding of the concepts cannot be shown on any medium without a proper structure, flow, and sequence of points that build the entire story. So basically, writing lays the foundation of a show.’

Is originality is dying in the industry? He replied, ‘Originality of writing is not dead yet. The concept of every show is still unique. However, because of the deadline issues, the execution of the concepts is affected.’

How does he see the transition of writing over the years? ‘While composing a concept, writers have to keep in mind who they want their target audience to be. A project has to win the majority of the audiences, whose taste has changed a lot in the past decade. So yes, writing is undergoing a transition indeed.’

It is a thankless job? ‘It is not totally a thankless job. Many fan clubs have emerged, and they undoubtedly love and bash writers simultaneously, but yes, writers definitely deserve more credit than they get at present.’

In conclusion, Sharad thanked us for launching this kind of award for felicitating the heroes who work hard behind the camera to make a show successful. ‘Any form of appreciation is always motivating and encouraging. So yes, this is a great move and it is going to boost our energies for sure.’

Sharad has been a part of the industry for quite some time now and is currently writing for Colors’ Shakti and Internet Wala Love.
