She was discovered by poet and lyricist Kaifi Azmi and was a popular starlet during the sixties and seventies.
He recommended her to filmmaker Basu Bhattacharya and that is how she got her first break in `Uski Kahaani`in 1966.
She never made it as a leading lady and moved to character roles. In the late 1990s she made a comeback via television with significant roles.

In fact her portrayal of Ranjana Devi in the television series `Swabhimaan` received many accolades. She has also acted in serials like Astitva, Kkusum , Kahiin To Hoga.

Among her favorite actors Naseeruddin Shah tops her list. She claims that both the mediums of television and films are equal for an actor but as actor she finds the medium of television to be much engaging. Her three passions in life are caring for animals, classical music and gardening. In the matter of roles she feels that she is better in the emotional ones but she has gained popularity more in the negative roles.
