I am a full time actor who loves to be a part time cook...the only hitch is I don't always get it right. Here, I share a couple of my kitchen boo-boos..
I am such a waste in the kitchen. It surprises me because I don't particularly appreciate inefficiency stemming from lack of common sense. I proved I was one myself in two separate instances.
A pop corn pang popped last night as Shweta and I were watching a thriller and I had to run into the kitchen. It should have taken four minutes to get the nice bowl full of crisp, hot pop corn but I got out of the kitchen only after about eight to 10 minutes.
Now this was still okay. The worst was when I could not understand why Shweta complained that they were overdone and burnt and lost their flavour. I felt ridiculous inside as I still finished the entire bowl and in fact relished it. But secretly I knew - she was right.
This afternoon Shweta decided to make some dosas for lunch. She made them hot and I savoured them almost straight from the pan. Once I was done she started eating herself. At intervals she would go and check on the stove and simmer the gas or do something with the dosa on the stove. I felt benevolent. I decided to do the needful and get her a crisp dosa made while she was still on the table. I once again ventured into the kitchen. In a couple of minutes I yelled foul and she rushed in to find I had burnt a NON STICK pan spatula! The spatula was gone and so was the dosa. The only thing thankfully was not lost was Shweta's patience!!
As I read this write up to Shweta, she shared something very beautiful. She said, "Now you've learnt two things. One, how to make pop corn - quick and correct, and two to not use a non-stick rubber spatula, anywhere and everywhere!" Sweet!
I am yet not confident if I have learnt the above two, but I'd say I have learnt one good thing for sure... When in doubt, yell out.... S-H-W-E-T-AAAA...
