TV couples: From reel to real

Their sizzling chemistry sets the TV screens on fire. And off screen too, they are very much in love; and the television industry is full of such couples. For these actors, love blossomed on the sets of their show; even though it wasn’t as fast as you read it. They have enjoyed each others’ presence in the same daily and had a blast playing a couple onscreen. Few have tied the knot already and the others have been brave enough to publicly accept their relationship.
So here’s presenting to you, TV's off-screen and onscreen couples. We feature names like Sanaya Irani - Mohit Sehgal, Gurmeet Choudhary- Debina Bonnerjee, Ankita Lokhande - Sushant Singh Rajput, Karan Kundra - Kritika Kamra, Hiten Tejwani – Gauri Pradhan, Raqesh Vashisht – Ridhi Dogra, Ram Kapoor - Gautami Gadgil, Rubina Dilaik -Avinash Sachdev, Ravi Dubey - Sargun Mehta and Barkha Bisht - Indraneil Sengupta. Quite a big list!!

Gurmeet Choudhary - Debina Bonnerjee
Ram and Sita of Imagine’s Ramayan, Gurmeet Choudhary -Debina Bonnerjee, are probably one of the most celebrated couple of TV. The two first met in a Mr & Mrs Bollywood event, but cupid struck only during the shooting of this mythological offering. In fact, Gurmeet also proposed marriage to his girl in Imagine’s Pati Patni Aur Woh that too in true Bollywood style. He went down on one knee and presented Debina a ring. The couple had a registered marriage on 15 February 2011 in Mumbai, which was attended by the couple’s parents, childhood friends and the registrar of marriage. In fact, Gurmeet says that he is madly in love with Debina and doesn’t do anything without asking her.
Sushant Singh Rajput - Ankita Lokhande
Ankita and Sushant made their TV debut with Balaji Telefilms’ Pavitra Rishta on Zee TV. And while the two were playing the demure couple, Manav-Archana in the show, their friendship grew into love. In fact, Sushant, who is a die-hard romantic also proposed Ankita on national TV (Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa on Sony Entertainment) in 2011. And while the couple is not seen onscreen any more, their die-hard fans are having a blast watching them make public appearances together, every now and then.
Mohit Sehgal - Sanaya Irani
Gunjan and Samrat from Star One's Miley Jab Hum Tum took a really long time to make their relationship public. In fact, they announced that they were dating only on the last day of shoot. For them, the dictum opposites attract holds true. Sanaya is very outgoing and Mohit on the other hand is very reserved, though now he claims to be changing all thanks to his lady love and has become more social than before. While the series has ended people are dying to see the love birds onscreen together again.
Karan Kundra – Kritika Kamra
These two, are heartthrobs of the nation. While the girls can’t stop raving about Karan, boys can’t help sighing when they see Kritika. So you can very well understand how hot this TV couple is. This story, too, started on the sets of a daily, Kitani Mohabbat Hai. While their onscreen avatars used to fight continuously, Karan and Kritika were best friends off screen, but fights were regular among them. And after being good friends for six to eight months, they took their friendship to the next level. When Kitani Mohabbat Hai 2 went on air, the viewers and obviously the couple were extremely ecstatic.
Hiten Tejwani – Gauri Pradhan
For this couple, real life imitated reel life. In Sony Entertainment’s Kutumb, their characters couldn’t see eye to eye and in reality Hiten and Gauri also didn’t exactly get along too well. But you never know when cupid would strike. Their relationship went through a series of changes. First they were on talking terms, then good friends and lovers; eventually got married. While Gauri is a bit short tempered, Hiten’s cool attitude helps maintain the symphony in their relation. The couple has twins together, Nevaan and Katya.
Raqesh Vashisht – Ridhi Dogra
Raqesh and Ridhi first came together in YRF show Seven, but they began seeing each other much later. Love struck while they were shooting for their show Maryada on Star Plus. The TV couple got married last year. And Raqesh thinks Ridhi is his lady luck, as his life has changed for good after Ridhi entered his life. Isn’t that sweet? Ram Kapoor - Gautami Gadgil
Both of them are poles apart. They met on the sets of Balaji Telefilms’ Ghar Ek Mandir. Firstly, they were just good colleagues, then friends, then good friends for a while and eventually came to know that they were meant to be with each other. Many claim that Ram has tamed after marriage. He has changed completely, and is much different than his wild boy image. Together they have a daughter, Sia.
Avinash Sachdev - Rubina Dilaik
Who doesn’t know that Rubina and Avinash met on the sets of Zee TV’s Choti Bahu. And cupid played its role really soon and the two fell in love. But first Avinash didn’t like Rubina and hated her a lot. Rubina on the other hand, considered him to be snobbish. But now that their equation has gone through a lot of changes, they think that love is the best thing to have happened to him. Luckily, with the second innings of this drama on air, the two have got another chance to play a couple onscreen as well.
Ravi Dubey - Sargun Mehta
The two played couple in Zee TV’s 12/24 Karol Bagh and like many in the industry, fell in love on sets of this daily. Though initially they were just good friends, but now they are head over heels in love with each other. But there’s something about Ravi that irritates Sargun. She says that Ravi doesn’t make much eye contact when speaking to people. However, it looks like Ravi doesn’t want to offend his lady love as Sargun herself claims that Ravi is improving all thanks to Sargun.
Indraneil Sengupta - Barkha Bisht
Their love story seems to have come out of a Bollywood flick. Barkha considered Indraneil a snob and he, on the other hand, didn’t care about her opinion at all. The two first met on the sets of Star Plus’ Pyaar Ke Do Naam...Ek Radha Ek Shyaam. But it was only after the show ended, that they realized their love for each other. And after two years of courtship, the couple tied the knot. They are the proud parents of a daughter, they have named her Meira.
