Top Moments from Oscars 2015

As always, The 87th Academy Awards registered some top notch moments that moved one and all. From impassioned speeches to host Neil Patrick Harris' comic acts (including coming in his underwear), Oscars this year made for a worthwhile watch. We list out the top five moments that unfolded on Sunday in USA at the world's premiere film award night.

Best speeches of the night - Patrician Arquette and J.K. Simmons

Boyhood's lone joy came in the form of  Patricia Arquette who clinched the best supporting actress Oscar. But it was her heart tugging acceptance speech that got her a standing ovation from the audience and a thumping approval from the legendary Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez.

"We have fought for everybody else's equal rights. It's our time to have wage equality once and for all and women's right for everyone in America," said  Patricia Arquette.

J.K. Simmons who won the first award of the night for Best Supporting Actor also had a word of advice for sons and daughters all across the globe.

"Call your mom, call you dad. If you are lucky enough to have a mother or father on this planet don't text, call them."

Neil Patrick Harris’s underwear act

After Ellen DeGeneres phenomenal hosting last year, successor Neil Patrick Harris had big shoes to fill and we think Neil put up a pretty good show. From having Anna Kendrick and Jack Black join him on stage for an opening number to performing a duet with Kendrick that had Jack screaming Enough, Neil made sure to have the audience in chuckles for a major part of the ceremony.   But the act that gave the audience maximum laughs were Neil coming on stage in his white underwear trying to parody Birdman.

Lady Gaga’s stirs up Sound of Music

Songstress Lady Gaga moved one and all with her powerful rendition that included a medley of songs from The Sound of Music. Her act had Julie Andrews walking on stage and thanking her by saying, “Thank you for that wonderful tribute, it really warmed my heart.”

The moment when everyone cried

A song that moved Oscars 2015 was Glory from Selma. Common and John Legend rendered it with such mellifluous passion that tears swelled up in the eyes of many including Chris Pine and David Oyelowo. The song deservingly was adjudged the Best Original Song.

John Travolta’s kissing spree

This may qualify as an awkward moment but given John Travolta’s propensity to create gaffes we had to include this one here. Just when Scarlett Johansson was getting herself clicked on the red carpet, the burly John snuck in from behind and planted a kiss on her cheek. On stage, John was seen touching Idina Menzel face a bit too much which made host Neil comment, “Travolta will be back next year apologizing to Menzel again for all the face touching,"
