This Friday's action-packed thriller, Baby, is the talk of the town. Thanks to Akshay 'Khiladi' Kumar's restrained acting and a chilling plot. Just when we written him off for being a potboiler actor after Rowdy Rathore, Boss, Holiday and the like, he gave us the stunning (albeit seen-many-times-before) movie Baby. We tell you why Akki should stick to these kinds of flicks in the future too.

No meaningless songs:
Unlike his previous ventures, Baby doesn't suddenly throw up a song sequence, right in the middle of a chase. It doesn't have any song except for a situational bit. Perhaps that's why the pace of the movie is never compromised as songs and dance sequences don't send the plot off-track. What a relief it was to watch a nail-biting thriller like this. If you have seen his last year's hits like Boss and Holiday, you'd have seen songs cropping up at every twist and turn in the movie...making the movie a dud critically.

Actresses are not props:
One thing we have learned from all of Akki's recent movies is that he functions better when he is not paired opposite masala queen Sonakshi Sinha. It's our humble request to him to choose movies that don't have a heroine who is a distraction or a mere prop. Whereas in Baby, both the ladies have meaty roles that did justice to the plot. While Tapasee Pannu was sensational as the ass-kicking sidekick, Madhurima Tulli sticks to the script as the distressed wife of a spy. Why can't we have more such roles for the heroines? Why should she only be relegated to dance or damsel in distress categories? What we absolutely loved about the movie was that agent Priya (Pannu) doesn't wait for the hero to take care of her as she kicks ass without any inhibitions. She doesn't fight in skimpy clothes (like PeeCee from Don), but does it salwar kameez like a true agent would when caught unawares!

Restrained acting:
While watching Baby, you have to actually pinch yourself to make sure you're not dreaming. Because the movie doesn't have any of the over-the-top machismo of a Boss, Rowdy Rathore or Khiladi 786. The action sequences as subtle yet hard-hitting, the chases clever, the capture and dialogue highly believable. There are no punch dialogues or gimmicks that make the movie a farce. Instead everything happens as it would happen in a real special force.

Realistic fights:
We enjoyed the fight sequences because we could relate to them. Cars didn't fly, bullets didn't stop mid-way in the air, villains didn't get smashed to pulp like in a Prabhudeva or Rohit Shetty movie. Nothing about the movie is unrealistic. If we thoroughly enjoyed the movie it's only because it was not like the Singhams and Dabanggs where the hero is invincible.
