Generally people do not make Bollywood debut with film like Guddu Ki Gun: Payel Sarkar

Payel Sarkar

As scheduled, one bright sunny morning we knocked at her door. Clad in a loose payjama and tee shirt, she opened the door...sleep was yet to leave her eyes. “Hi, we ringed you up at 9.30 am but the call went unanswered.....,” we told her with a smile. Even with her sleepy eyes she managed a bright smile and welcomed us to her drawing room saying, “...actually I returned late last night!” Can you guess whom we are writing about??? Well, we are referring to the young sexy beautiful charming Payel Sarkar. Within 10 minutes the Tolly star was ready for a freewheeling interview with Tellychakkar.com were she spoke about her Bollywood debut Guddu Ki Gun, experience of working with co-star Kunal Khemu and more. Excerpts:

Congratulations for your Bollywood debut!!! Tell us something about this venture....

Thank you. This film is Guddu Ki Gun starring Kunal Khemu and directed by Shantanu Ray Chhibber and Sheershak Anand. They have previously directed a film called 3G and have written the script for Table No. 21. Basically, it is a high concept comedy. It is a kind of subject which is little wacky and weird but then it is a nonsense comedy and the situations and the characters are really funny.

How did you bag the movie?

I met Shantanu first...they were shooting in Kolkata...he called me up and offered the role. They were planning to take a Bollywood actor and a Bengali actress who is renowned in Kolkata as their leads.

What is your opinion about this concept of pairing up of actors from different industries?

If your film has got stars from different industries; you will get more audiences. I think this concept of pairing actors from different industries helps to spread the film to different horizons which is good for both the industries.

Was it a conscious decision to make your debut with an adult comedy?

It was not a conscious decision; it came to me and obviously there is Kunal Khemu; he is a star and it is a different subject. It is not a movie with which someone generally makes debut in Bollywood. So, I have taken a risk!  And there were Shantanu and Sheershak; I really liked Table No. 21. and 3G was also a kind of weird and wacky film. It was a horror film but there were lots of quirky stuffs. And obviously it’s a lead role in a Bollywood film so you have to take a step.

How is the experience of working with Kunal Khemu?

He is fantastic to work with. First of all he is a star and see I am working with Tollywood for quite a long time but as of now people don’t know me in Bollywood because I haven’t done anything in terms of movies; I have done only television soaps and that does not mean anything when you enter into films. Bollywood films altogether are a different ballgame. But he, including other team members, was really nice to me. He is very involved with the script and the film. The kind of involvement that he has towards this film is something to watch out for! And of course, he is a fantastic actor. I have seen the movies where he worked as child actor and I really liked his first film (Kalyug). Kunal Khemu is someone who has done all kinds of films starting from a film with social message to romantic to zombie films.

What are your expectations from the film?

I expect the film to do well and I get more work in Bollywood. These are the normal expectations that I have.

What kind of roles you would like to do in future?

I would like to do all kinds of roles. See, actors should not be rigid. You have to be flexible to do any kind of role in any kind of film.

Will you be comfortable in doing a really sensational hot scene?

It depends because I have my limitations. See, first of all when you are offered to do a bold scene in any film you have to trust your script and the director. And then think about your stuffs; obviously that is also very important because you too have to be comfortable with what you are doing. So, as I said I have limitations, I would like to know the entire thing before doing any sensational scene. See, right now I am not thinking about such scenes; a good director and a good script are my primary priorities, these things come much later.

Okay, who are the Bollywood directors you would like to work in future?

I would love to work with Farhan Akhtar, Rajkumar Hirani and Karan Johar.

So, are you planning to settle down in Mumbai?

It’s too early to say! There are few projects in the pipeline let’s see how it works...

"Guddu Ki Gun" releases today (30 October).
