Sports related biopics have had a great run in India. The super success of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is the best example of how aficionados have embraced biopics made on sportspersons. Needless to say, a hit often gives rise to a trend that sees the sprouting of many similar biopics on sports. However, Priyanka Chopra refused to categorise Mary Kom in the league of sports related biopics. She even went on to state that it would be unfair to compare Mary Kom to other sports related biopics.
"It's disrespectful to compare Mary Kom with other biopics. This is the first movie made on a female athlete of India. There has never been anything like this before. So to say that this is a trend that we are following is wrong," said Priyanka.
Priyanka who had to undergo a rigorous training regime to look like Mary Kom said that identifying with her real personality and bringing it alive on screen was the toughest thing to do. "The most difficult thing for me was to understand her personality that of being a boxer, a mother and homemaker. I have not personally experienced these myself. So to bring it alive on screen was a challenge," said Priyanka and added that soon after completing the shooting of Mary Kom she had to go on crash diet to prepare for Zoya Akhtar's next.
Priyanka also joked that her shapely biceps also posed a problem while performing the item number in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ram-Leela. "While shooting the song, Ram Chahe..I had visible muscles and to cover them Sanjay asked me to wear a full sleeved blouse," revealed Priyanka.
Mary Kom releases on 5th September along with Parineeti Chopra's Dawaat-E-Ishq. "It's going to be a Chopra weekend," remarked Priyanka.
