My door's always open: Geoffrey Wright on working with Russell Crowe again

Romper Stomper director Geoffrey Wright says he would like to work with his film's actor Russell Crowe again, but feels there's not much of a chance.

Asked whether he sees himself collaborating with Crowe once again, Wright told a publication, "Look, I would like to, but I think he's in his own space, and he's a filmmaker too. I don't think there's much of a chance of that happening, but my door is always open."

Crowe has cemented his space in Hollywood with films like A Beautiful Mind, American Gangster, Robin Hood, Les Miserables, Man of Steel, Noah and Gladiator. He turned director with The Water Diviner in 2015.

Wright feels it is always difficult for actors to approach directing.

"Because all of a sudden, you have got to think of a lot of things and moving parts, but I thought he made a good first major movie, and not all actors make the transition or last in that business. Mel Gibson made the transition and I think he is especially interesting.

"He has got a vision. Actors sometimes forget that you have got to have the vision, and it's not just about the spoken word or performance," added the filmmaker, who was a jury member at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne last month.

Rapper Mac Miller dead

Rapper-producer Mac Miller, who began his rise in the music industry in his late teens, has died. He was 26.

"He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends, and fans," his family wrote in a statement obtained by CNN through Miller's publicist.

There were no details on the cause of his death.

The Los Angeles Police Department told CNN that officers responded to a call for a death investigation at the 11600 block of Valleycrest Road here just before Friday noon local time.

The coroner's office will handle the investigation, according to police.

Miller, whose real name is Malcolm McCormick, started his journey in music as a teenager by putting out mixtapes in his native Pittsburgh. In 2012, his first album, "Blue Slide Park," became the first independent debut album to hit the top of the Billboard chart in more than 16 years. Miller was 19.

He released his fifth studio album, "Swimming," last month.

He was set to perform a series of concerts in support of the record starting in late October, with the opener scheduled to take place at the Greek Theatre here.

"Mac was a hugely gifted and inspiring artiste, with a pioneering spirit and a sense of humour that touched everyone he met," Tom Corson, co-chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Warner Bros. Records, Miller's label, said in a statement.

"Mac's death is a devastating loss and cuts short a life and a talent of huge potential, where the possibilities felt limitless. We join all of his fans across the globe in extending our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends."

At times, Miller's personal life attracted as much -- if not more -- attention than his professional accomplishments, particularly in the case of his relationship with singer Ariana Grande.

The pair dated for almost two years and recorded multiple songs together, including "My favourite part" and "The way". Grande and Miller ended their relationship in May.

Shortly after their split, Grande started dating "Saturday Night Live" star Pete Davidson. The couple got engaged weeks later.

Mac Miller dead: John Mayer, Wiz Khalifa 'terribly sad'

Celebrities like John Mayer and Wiz Khalifa flocked to Twitter to share their grief over the death of rapper-producer Mac Miller.

He was 26. He was pronounced dead at his Studio City, California, home, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner said in a statement to a leading portal.

The cause of death is yet to be determined, but a source said the rapper had gone into cardiac arrest after appearing to suffer a drug overdose.

Miller, born as Malcolm James McCormick, long battled substance abuse issues, particularly in the wake of his split with longtime girlfriend and singer Ariana Grande. In May, he was arrested on DUI and hit-and-run charges.

Chance the Rapper was among those who offered his thoughts, revealing that Miller played a major role in helping launch his career, reports suggest so.

Mayer, who played guitar on the track "Small worlds" from Miller's latest album "Swimming", posted a blank image on Instagram in tribute. "I'm so sad you couldn't stay, Mac. I'm so terribly sad."

G-Eazy posted a photograph of the two with a moving caption for the late rapper.

"Completely devastated and heartbroken. I'm at a loss for words. Mac you were like a brother to me and were there for me in the hardest of times, especially this summer. I can't believe this is real," he wrote.

"Please tell your friends and the people you care about you love them life is so fucking fragile. You will be missed and your music will live on forever through the millions of people you touched. Thank you for all you gave us, love you bro."

DJ Khaled and singer Khalid also tweeted messages of love to the late star.

Cardi B, Nicki Minaj get into fight

Rappers Cardi B and Nicki Minaj were involved in a heated altercation during a party.

In videos captured by an online portal and fellow guests, the two rappers were seen in a scuffle towards the end of the party.

A source said Minaj was mingling with guests and keeping to herself when Cardi lunged at her and began shouting. Minaj then didn't move and continued on with her night.

Footage appeared on social media showing Cardi B throwing a red high heel at Minaj.

While no police reports have been filed as of yet, Cardi was seen escorted out of the private event with her team in tow. Also visible on the new mother was a large bruise above her left eye.

Shortly after the fight on Friday, Cardi took to Instagram to vent her frustrations over the "Bed" rapper.

"I've let a lot of s--t slide! I let you sneak diss me, I let you lie on me, I let you attempt to stop my bags, f**k up the way I eat! You've threatened other artistes in the industry, told them if they work with me you'll stop f***kin with them! I let you talk big s**t about me.

"I addressed you once in person, I addressed you a second time in person, and every time you copped a plea! But when you mention my child, you choose to like comments about me as a mother, make comments about my abilities to take care of my daughter is when all bets are f***kin off! I've worked too hard and come too far to let anybody f**k with my success!"

Cardi concluded by writing, "B*****s talk all that s**t in they raps but in real life they p**sy! This s**t really is for entertainment!"

Minaj is yet to publicly comment about what went down at the party.

Grande disables Instagram comments after Miller's death

Singer Ariana Grande has disabled Instagram comments after fans started blaming her for her former boyfriend and rapper Mac Miller's death.

The rapper died at the age of 26 on Friday. Some fans were quick to blame Grande, who announced her split from Miller in May after nearly two years together, for his sudden death.

A source told etonline.com that Grande is "devastated" by the tragic news of Miller's death.

Although the two ended their relationship, Ariana always shared a deep connection with Mac and wanted nothing but the best for him," the source added of the former couple.

"Ariana is very upset."

Another source said Grande is heartbroken, adding, "Despite their split, Ariana had always been supportive of his sobriety".

Grande and Miller were first romantically linked in August 2016 and released several songs together, including "The way" and "My favourite part".

Following their split earlier this year, Grande took to Instagram to address the break-up.

This is one of my best friends in the whole world and favourite people on the planet Malcolm McCormick (Miller)," the 24-year-old singer wrote at the time.

I respect and adore him endlessly and am grateful to have him in my life in any form, at all times regardless of how our relationship changes or what the universe holds for each of us."

Unconditional love is not selfish. It is wanting the best for that person even if at the moment, it's not you. I can't wait to know and support you forever and I'm so proud of you!"

However, following Miller's arrest on a DUI charge later that month, the singer addressed the rapper's struggles with sobriety on Twitter, in response to a social media user who wrote, "Mac Miller totalling his G wagon and getting a DUI after Ariana Grande dumped him for another dude after he poured his heart out on a ten song album to her called the divine feminine is just the most heartbreaking thing happening in Hollywood."

Grande gave a lengthy response, calling her relationship with the rapper, and his sobriety, "toxic".

'I Dream of Jeannie' actor dead at 91.

Actor Bill Daily, known for his work in the sitcoms I Dream of Jeannie and The Bob Newhart Show, is dead. He was 91.

Bill, who employed stand-up comedian and actor Bob Newhart as his accountant in Chicago before the two went on to show business fame, died on Tuesday of natural causes in Santa Fe, New Mexico, his son, J. Patrick Daily, told a leading portal.

He spent five seasons on I Dream of Jeannie, which aired from 1965-1970, then worked for six seasons on The Bob Newhart Show, which ran from 1972-78. The whole time, he battled dyslexia and had to memorise all his lines to keep going.

After appearances on the TV comedies Bewitched and The Farmer's Daughter, Bill attracted the attention of I Dream of Jeannie creator Sidney Sheldon and landed the role of Roger Healey, the best friend of another NASA astronaut, Anthony Nelson (Larry Hagman), on the fantasy comedy that starred Barbara Eden as a genie.

"I called him our bullpen man," Newhart said in a statement released on Friday.

"Whenever we were having trouble with a script on the show, we'd have Bill make an appearance. In recent years, we had hoped to have Bill be a part of The Bob Newhart Show tributes at the TV Academy, but by then he was no longer travelling. He was one of the most positive people I ever knew, and we'll dearly miss him."

William Edward Daily was born on 30 August 1927, in Des Moines, Iowa.
