I have no hope from elections this year - Imran Khan

While many A listers of Bollywood have been openly taking sides this election season, actor Imran Khan has chosen to remain apolitical not to avoid courting controversies but due to a lack of choice as far as good candidates or party are concerned. When we asked Imran on what his hopes are from this year's election, the actor was quite blunt in his opinions. “My hopes are bleak. In fact, I have no hopes at all.”

Explaining the reason behind this pessimism, Imran said, “I am not a political expert but from all that I have been seeing and reading in newspapers and television, I don't find any hope. I see no candidate or party offering or filling me with great hope.”

Imran frankly admitted that had he not been a US citizen, he would have pressed the NOTA button (None of the above) while voting in India.

The actor is dead sure about the fact that irrespective of whoever becomes the Prime Minister of our country, nothing will change at the ground level. “The situation will remain the same. No change will happen. A person becoming the Prime Minister will never get to know what's happening locally. Everything will just be the same here,” reasoned Imran.

The actor does however have a word or two on the kind of changes he would want to see in India. “I have a great social responsibility towards India. It's my country although I am not able to vote. Two major issues that I think needs to be addressed are education and equality. Education is the basic need of the hour. Second is bridging the gap between rich and poor. In Mumbai on one hand, you have a high rise and just next to it you have the slums. Such inequality and discrepancy that co-exists should be removed,” emphasized Imran.

Well, Imran we like the fact that you never mince words while expressing your opinion. Let's hope that elections this time will bring in a positive change.
