Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan among world's highest-paid celebs
Bollywood superstars Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan, with earnings of $40.5 million and $37.7 million, have made it to Forbes' World's Highest-Paid Celebrities 2018 list, topped by former professional boxer Floyd Mayweather.
Akshay, 50, and Salman, 52, are the only two Indians in the list, which was unveiled on Monday. Akshay is ranked 76th, while Salman is placed on 82 in the list, which includes athletes, musicians, personalities, actors and comedians.
According to Forbes, the world's 100 top-earning entertainers pulled in a combined USD 6.3 billion pre-tax over the past 12 months, up 22 per cent from last year and 11 superstars crossed the $100 million threshold, more than double the number from the last two years combined.
The Celebrity 100 list ranks front-of-camera stars around the globe using their pre-tax earnings from June 1, 2017 through June 1, 2018, before deducting fees for managers, lawyers and agents. Estimates are based on numbers from Nielsen, Pollstar, IMDB, SoundScan, NPD BookScan and ComScore, as well as interviews with industry experts and many of the stars themselves.
Akshay has been described by Forbes as one of Bollywood's leading men who "has transitioned to socially-conscious roles, such as 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha", a comedy supporting government campaigns to improve sanitation, and 'Pad Man' about a guy hoping to provide inexpensive sanitary pads to rural communities".
"He still mints millions from backend profits and endorsing some 20 brands, including Tata and Eveready," the description read.
As for Salman, he has been called Bollywood's "mainstay" who "continues to produce and star in hits such as 'Tiger Zinda Hai', cashing in on backend profits. Coupled with a slew of endorsements from Suzuki motorcycles to Chlormint gum, he remains one of India's top earners."
Taapsee screens 'Soorma' for 'Badla' team in Scotland
Actress Taapsee Pannu held a special screening of her latest release "Soorma" for the cast and crew of her upcoming film "Badla" in Scotland.
"I have been in Scotland since June shooting for 'Badla' and hence couldn't be there in Mumbai to feel the buzz around 'Soorma'. I decided to do a screening here in Scotland for my team so we all could have a nice breather in between our work and I shall know audience reaction first-hand," Taapsee said in a statement.
Taapsee plays Harpreet in "Soorma", a Shaad Ali directorial about the life of hockey legend Sandeep Singh. It also stars Diljit Dosanjh and Angad Bedi.
"It was a very heart warming experience to see the entire crew turn up and they all were very appreciative of the film. It helped me believe the reactions I'm getting on my social media as well," she added.
"Badla", directed by Sujoy Ghosh, reunites Taapsee and Amitabh Bachchan on-screen after "Pink".
Celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi minus plastic: Dia Mirza
For Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, which fall in September, actress and UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador Dia Mirza wants people to shun plastic.
Dia on Tuesday tweeted a message for leaders in Mumbai to contribute a bit by eradicating the use of plastics in pandals.
"This year as we approach Ganesh Utsav, it will be incredible to see all our MPs, MLAs and leaders display their solidarity for Swachh Bharat by making our pandals free of plastics and plaster of paris," she wrote.
An activist for a clean and green environment, the actress-producer this year on World Environment Day (June 5) also hosted an awareness programme 'Beat Plastic Pollution' in Delhi.

Manisha Koirala to play a detective in another web series
After doing her digital space series Lust Stories Manisha Koirala will now reportedly be seen as a detective in a web series. According to some sources, Applause Entertainment headed by Sameer Nair is planning the Indian adaptation of the US-based crime thriller series Eyewitness (2016). They have approached Manisha for the lead role in the project and she had liked the idea. Over the last few weeks, the actress met the team a few times and she has finally given her nod to it. Currently, the team is working out the modalities with Manisha and locking her dates, adds our source. The Sanju actress has apparently been offered this role, which has been essayed by Julianne Nicholson in the original. The shoot for the adaptation is expected to roll out in the next few months.
