Why Priyanka Chopra hates the word ‘de-glam’...

Just the mere mention of the word de-glam is enough to make Priyanka Chopra see red. The actress absolutely despises this word and its usage and literally hates it when people prefer to call her characters from Barfi or Mary Kom as de-glam. "I really hate this word de-glam," says Priyanka and emphatically adds, "What does a de-glam role mean. Some say my role in Mary Kom is de-glam. So not applying eye-liner and make up mean de-glam? Did you know that Mary absolutely loves applying lipstick. Infact, even I have applied red lipstick throughout the movie." Elaborating further, Priyanka says, "Make-up or the lack of it has nothing to do with being de-glam. In Barfi, I played an autistic woman and hence I couldn’t apply make-up. Ironically even in Fashion where I play a model, I didn’t have any make up on. Decoding the terminologies of glam and de-glam, Priyanka explains, "Glam and deglam is a very small part of an actor's life. Terms like Glam de-glam make an actor feel and look small. Every actor applies make-up. If you are in front of the camera, you will have to apply some powder. I recall what Mithun Chakraborthy once told me when I appeared on a reality show. Mithunda who was praising my singing abilities said,' Priyanka tumhari make-up ki kasam, I am stating the truth.' As an artist, I don’t think about make-up and lipstick. When we apply make-up, it is done so that we look convincing in the character we are playing in the movie. And you apply make up in every film. So make up is the weapon of an artist. To give it much importance over other talents of his or her is akin to undermining his or her creative talent and skills." Well-said Priyanka, we say. Spoken like a champion boxer.
