His father late Manas Mukherjee was a famed composer and his sister Sagorika is also a singer. The sister-brother duo had a superhit album Naujawan. As a child artiste, Shaan began his career by singing ad jingles and then moved on to remixes and cover versions. In Parinda, when he was only 15 years of age, he sang a single line in the song, "Kitni Hai Pyari Pyari Dosti Hamari".
