Bahu Humari Rajni_Kant is influenced by Small Wonder: Producer Sonali Jaffer

Sonali Jaffer

Sonali Jaffer is one of the known writers in the industry. With Life OK’s series Bahu Humari Rajni_Kant, the lady has donned the avatar of a producer. An ace wordsmith for sure is making a hilarious show about an ideal robot bahu. In an interview with Tellychakkar.com, Sonali spoke about her new show, Ridhima and on the Indian shows.

Excerpts...

How did you come up with the idea of doing a show like Rajni_Kant?

Long back when I used to watch the American comedy series Small Wonder, I used to love the theme of the series. At that time I used to wonder how it can be incorporated into a different scenario. Challenges in a woman’s life is very much different from a man’s challenges, hence I wanted to give the entire concept of a human like robot into a different situation. Influenced by Small Wonder I came up with the idea of Rajni_Kant.

What made you cast Ridhima Pandit in the titular role?

I know Ridhima for a very long time. As she got busy with other projects, we didn’t have the chance to work together. Few months ago she again got in touch with me. And that’s how Rajni_Kant happened. Actually Ridhima is very grounded, which is very much evident in her looks. I wanted someone innocent for this role. Hence, I thought no one else would fit the bill like her.

Do you think that television lacks refreshing content and repeats the old ones?

I really can’t state about others, but I have always tried to do different projects. Currently, I am working for Krishnadasi as well, apart from Rajni_Kant, which is again something different and interesting. I guess everyone tries to do that.

Even after being adapted from some literary work, serials often lose the track of the main theme. What is the reason behind this according you?

Well I can share a person experience with you all to explain the situation. Yeh Hai Mohabbatein has been adapted from the novel The Custody. The original novel ended with Raman and Ishita winning Ruhi’s custody. In the case of a daily soap which runs for years, one cannot just stop with that; hence as writers we have to introduce many new plots in the original series. That is the reason why serials adapted from literary works often lose track.

You have turned a producer after being a writer. Do you think that making your own show helps you to narrate your concept in a better way?

Nothing like that! Every producer has his / her own way of communicating a story and if the concept is good and can be delivered in a convincing manner, the show will definitely do good. At times, even my show can backfire on me.

Any more projects you are keeping your eye on?

See, romance has always have been my genre. Hence, I would definitely love to work on that. Though I have taken a break from romance currently, I would love to do a project in future.

All the best Sonali.
