Tell us something about yourself?

(Smiles) Born and brought up in Rajasthan, I completed my bachelors in Arts from a college based in Jodhpur. Later, after my marriage, I shifted to Mumbai. On coming here, I started helping my husband in his fashion business. And now there is no looking back for me.

Can you name us a few serials that you’ve designed for?

It’s a long list. Mostly, I have done all the shows of all the channels that you can name of. But my career took a turning point from Desh Mein Nikla Hoga Chand. And then, we have also done shows like Pratigya, Gumraah, Sasural Genda Phool, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, Milay Jab Hum Tum, Suvreen Guggal, Saas Bina Sasural, Na Aana Iss Des Laado, Chhal Sheh Aur Maat and many more.

How has your journey been so far?

It has been great. This industry has given me a lot and I believe hard work will always lead you to success. When people from all over the country call me and appreciate my work, I really feel blessed. All I can say is that I have been paid handsomely since I was very passionate about my work. In the last 15 years of my career, I have never received any kind of complain from any actor and production house.

Can you name one of your favourite actor or actress in the TV domain?

(blushes) I for one like Hina Khan from Yeh Rishta as she carries all her costumes very well. Then I like Manasi Salvi, since she has a very pleasing personality. Even Drashti Dhami is a beautiful looking girl. Talking about the elder ones, I like Rupal Patel. Among the males, I really like Karan Singh Grover and Vivian Dsena. Both are extremely handsome and stylish. I feel honoured to say that their costumes are designed by me.

Who would you like to design clothes in future for?

I admire Sridevi a lot and she is always well dressed in all the parties and events. And even Katrina Kaif, as she is very young and beautiful; she looks good in all kinds of outfits.

Describe the general process you go through while designing costumes?

I look after the creative and my husband looks after the other work. I have a staff strength of 80 people working under me. I have many people assigned for different work from sketching to cutting to stitching to designing to delivery. While designing costumes for a character some basics which I always keep in mind are the age of the character, his role, cultural background, financial background and storyline. If any show has festivals, then we design the dress accordingly. In a day, we have to make 20 to 40 sets of costumes.

Name some of your favourite designers?

My favourite designers are Manish Malhotra for sarees and Neeta Lulla for traditional outfit.

What are your favourite fashion websites, magazines or books?

There is no such website or magazines which will help you in this topic. I for one, like to create my own designs.

What are your favorite colors and why?

Red is my favourite colour. It blends with all hues. The best colour combination is red-orange and red-pink.

What are your favorite patterns [prints] and why?

Right now, georgette fabric, net, velvet, soft fabrics are in trend. It gives you a well defined look.

What are your future plans?

Well, in future I am planning to launch my own website. But I want my viewers to keep loving my work and keep blessing me with their appreciations.
