"I pursue acting and as every actor should have a backup career, I also work as a supervising producer" - Shubhraj Sharma

Shubhraj Sharma
Shubhraj Sharma, who joined army training with an intention to become an army officer realized that his interest lies more towards acting and that he found peace on the other side of the camera. Currently the talented guy is working as the Supervising producer of Sadda Haq, produced by Beyond Dreams Productions for Channel [V]. In his conversation with Tellychakkar.com, he talks about his journey and learnings from the industry.. Please highlight your journey in this industry. I studied my B Com in finance and entered the army for training. However, while I was training, I realized that my interest was in acting. I therefore left the training mid-way and learnt theatre and came to Mumbai. Here I lived in a dormitory room with 10 to 11 people. Just then one of my roommates who worked for Balaji Telefilms offered me a job as an Assistant Director, for the shows Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka. Looking at my performance I was then offered the post of an Executive Director and I worked on Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Karam Apna Apna, Kitani Mohabbat Hai and Koi Aane Ko Hai amongst some others. I was doing good work but was paid lesser than my expectations. I hence quit Balaji Telefilms and joined Priya Creations. At Priya Creations I worked for Bhagyavidhaata and during the process I was called back to Balaji Telefilms. I decided to start afresh with Parichay, but again due to the monetary problems I quit, only to be called back yet again! Putting an end to the circle of quitting and joining back, I decided to stay in Balaji and since then I handled shows like Pyaar Kii Ek Kahani, Kya Hua Tera Vaada, Gumrah-Season 2. I am now a supervising producer with Beyond Dreams Productions for its show- Sadda Haq on Channel V. That is indeed an elaborated journey. But why an executive producer and not an actor? It’s not that I don’t act (Smiles). I pursue acting and as every actor should have a backup career, I also work as a supervising producer. So what are your shift timings? Frankly speaking, the unit has shift timings, of a 12 hour shift be it 2 am – 2pm, 9 am- 9 pm or 7am- 7pm. We, as supervising producers have no shift timings. We have to take care that the telecast is not repeated, manage the artists as to who will be required to shoot the next day, manage budget costs, production cost, allotting the budget to the art director and a lot of other things. With so much hard work involved, what motivates you to keep going? Look, if you really have an inclination to work you will work. When I was fairly new I found it extremely hectic. I do find it hectic even now, but it’s just that I know and understand my work better and enjoy it. It must be a hard time dealing with actors… Yes sometimes, but then pyaar mohobbat se samjhate hai… it’s such that there are some actors who understand the value of work and cooperate. There are some who throw tantrums, typically the younger generation actors. An advice to new aspirants in this field… If you have the passion and capability to work, go for it. It is just that one needs to have that drive in them.
