I ran away from home to chase my dream: Sohanna Sinha

The creative producer of a show plays a key role in success of any show. How? They are responsible of spiking up viewers’ interest by introducing jaw dropping twists and turns to a plot. Now, as we start our new section ‘Behind the Lens’, we got in touch with Sohanna Sinha, the Creative Producer of the much talked about show Devon Ke Dev… Mahadev on Life OK. She is associated with the production house Triangle Films Company which is owned by her hubby Nikhil Sinha (they both came to our office as guest editors, and we must add that they are one super cool couple).

In a candid rendezvous, Sohaana opened up to Tellychakkar.com about and talked about her entry into this industry and shared how an aspiring actress went on to don the creative hat with Triangle Film Company. How did you enter this profession? Frankly speaking, I never thought of being in this position but I was confident of doing something related to media as I am an actress first. In short, it all started with my husband Nikhil (Sinha). I did supervise a few shows with him but nothing was planned. I had never planned to be a Creative Producer of any show. Tell us about your journey in the industry? Hailing from a very conservative family, it was obvious that my parents were against my profession of acting. Basically, I am a theatre person hence acting was very close to me but as my family was against everything I ran away from home to pursue my acting career. I went to UK for a few years and later on I came down to Mumbai and I met Nikhil. After a year of courtship we got married and I started supervising some shows with him. And here I am finally. Interesting… Share something more about the entire running away from home and eloping incident? Everyone knows that my sister Sonum Sinha is an actress too. Hence both of us were very much into media and acting. When I was doing a filmmaking course, after I ran away from my home to the UK, I stayed there all alone for few years. After returning back to India, I acted in a movie which never got released. Eventually, I met Nikhil here in Mumbai. Don’t you feel bad that your movie didn’t get released? No, not at all, I always feel that I am lucky to have been a part of the project. On the other hand there are thousands of strugglers who dream of getting a lead role in a movie but never succeed. I find myself fortunate on that count. And for your readers let me give you a surprise. Soon one of my movies is going to release. What difficulties and challenges you have faced…or still face in your personal and professional life? Well, the time when I was staying alone in Mumbai for almost two to three years was a difficult phase for me. But I overcame all of them. But as a creative, it feels bad when our decisions don’t work in favour of shows. We have many people working at the creative level; I am not the only one to make creative decisions. When they goof up at the initial level, they bring their queries to me after which I have to deal with it. But, a creative has always to be in the anxious mode till the final verdict gets out. Because if the decision taken turns right for the show, it’s your credit, but if it fails, it boomerangs. What advantage do you see being in the position of a creative for Mahadev? Being part of a show like Devon Ke Dev… Mahadev is advantage in itself. What more can I say? Do you think your profession is different from others? Yes, if you notice, people love to talk about us, whatever we do; good or bad, people are always behind our lives. They will hate us, love us but will never ever ignore us. What is surprising is that they wouldn’t care about country’s corruption, but will interestingly want to know about us. We are in a very ‘challenging’ profession, I must say and we are different as professionals.
