Srishti Arya may have grown up in a filmy environment, but she has always had a liking for ‘journalists’. Perhaps that's why the talented producer decided to launch Reporters, a show based on a scribe's life, under her Rose Audio Visuals Pvt Ltd banner.
The show was launched on Sony Entertainment Television last night and promises to be a game changer of sorts.
Here the producer gets talking in detail about her show....excerpts:
You mentioned being close to journalists and thus, this show. Why not a serial on TV and film industry?
Nobody wants to watch it, yaar! (laughs).
What inspired you to produce a show in the lines of the American show Newsroom?
Firstly, it is not like the ‘Newsroom’. It is a love story, set against the backdrop of a media organisation. I have always felt that not much about the lives of reporters are known by people. They are heroes in their own space, and it was high time that we brought their lives to the small screen.
Could you tell us more about Reporters?
Well, the premise is of a newsroom, and what goes behind the lens will also be shown to the audiences. Also, like any organisation, office politics, competition and insecurities are part of the media industry. All of these, added with a love story and some drama, will be presented as Reporters.
How confident are you of the show’s success?
I am very sure that it will engage audiences in its own way. People who enjoy TV will definitely love watching the show. It is a very important show for us and we are very excited about it.
How did you manage to get brother Goldie Behl to direct it?
Oh, it was too much of a mehnat! But this show is very different and has a very stylish appeal to it. The channel suggested Goldie’s name, I asked him and he agreed. He did require some setup time but I am glad he came on board for he is doing a wonderful job. Also, I can sack him whenever I want! (laughs).
How much is your contribution to the project?
Creatively, I am very much involved in the scripts and personally check on it. Also, the concept is mine, but I think our production team works almost like a well-knit family.
Are there any antagonists in the show?
Antagonist is a harsh word as everyone has his/her own reasons for his/her actions. If someone is ambitious, you cannot call them negative.
What kind of research went in to the show?
We got a news consultant in place who helped us in getting the entire set up in place.
There are already two popular shows at the same time slot on rival channels, any apprehension on the same?
Well, I hope it doesn’t hinder. But honestly, Reporters is a very different show. I don’t want to alienate my show as I too enjoy women-oriented stuff on TV, but I also know that there is an audience for such different concepts too. It is a cutting edge show and I really want it to do well so that we can bring up more seasons of the same.
Wish you luck, Srishti.
