In fact, I cannot believe that Uttaran has reached this far. It’s great that we finished 1000 episodes and are still going on with the same amount of vigour. And to tell you the fact, working with the stars of Uttaran has been very interesting. Before Uttaran could happen, I was into direction and have helmed many Bengali films. But, it is Uttaran that has given me an added impetus and has given a new turn to my career; it feels great being appreciated by the audience. Surprisingly, there have been no major setbacks in my career so far. Uttaran is one of the longest running shows on television in recent times. What according to you is the USP that has helped it to sustain so far? Hmm, I think we, as the team of Uttaran, have connected very well with the audience. I think that is the most important aspect of any show to be successful. We have an emotional bonding with the audience and that is what helps us to stay in touch. Success never comes singularly and in our case, the whole crew has been instrumental in bringing the show this far. Television is something which cannot work in isolation; it requires effective communication with the actors as well as viewers. It’s a joint contribution of viewers and the producers. I am extremely happy that Uttaran has reached so far. Anything interesting coming up next in the show? The show, till now, has been constantly focusing on Ichcha’s life. But, now we are planning to throw limelight on the life of Meethi, daughter of Veer and Ichcha. Let’s hope for the best. Comment on rumors that Uttaran is going off-air soon? (pauses) Well, ask the person who has this doubt. As for me, I am in no position to end the show at this moment when it’s a huge success. Tell us about your equation with your better half Pintoo Guha… personally and professionally? It’s very good and the prime reason of it is the success of Uttaran. Lead actor Tina Dutta is believed to be a tantrum queen. How do you deal with her? Firstly it is very difficult to face the camera for around 8 hours a day. The stars have to work from sunrise to sunset. This slowly gets into the attitude of an artiste, because it’s not a joke to face the camera. Everybody on the sets is well aware with her nature; so nobody ever tries to interfere. In fact, she is the only artiste who is allowed to do so. At times when she gets irrational, I personally get involved with her. I am really not okay with her behavior at times but it depends on the situation, as she is very young and the central character of the show. Sometimes, it gets difficult for me to deal with her. But one thing that needs to be appreciated of her is that nobody could ever think of playing her part in the show; she is so impeccable. It requires a lot of guts to be a TV artiste because it is not like a 10 to 6 regular job; it requires sacrifice and extreme effort. I completely sympathise with her position because it is very difficult to adjust. But, on the whole, she is doing pretty well. How do you unwind yourself? I don’t really unwind myself on sets but I do so at home. I prefer spending all my time with the two kids. Any future plans? I recently completed one of my Bengali films. And at this moment, I am busy with its promotion and release.
