I do not want to sacrifice my dignity for any reality show : Manish Raisinghani

Manish Raisinghani
He has been missing from the small screen for some time now. After doing highly popular shows like Kahin Kisi Roz, Betiyaan Apni Ya Parayaa Dhan,Teen Bahuraniyan and Jab Love Hua, Manish Raisinghani is back on small screen. The actor who became very popular with his portrayal of Varun Raheja in Kahin To Hoga , Manish replaced Eijaz Khan in the show. Varun Raheja did become a household name post Manish's entry. Currently Manish is portraying Adi in Playtime Creations Hum Dono Hai Alag Alag on Star One. Tellychakkar catches up with him in an informal tete-a-tete. Tell us something about your comeback vehicle... It is a simple story of a Gujarati family where two brothers Tappu (Yash Pandit) and Aditya (Manish) are on the lookout for a suitable girl. While Tapu is a simpleton somewhat like Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne…, Aditya is a cool-dude who knows all the tricks about leading life royally. He is a Casanova but loves his brother and family a lot. The love angle in the serial comes through Rajshree (Harshada Khandeparkar) who loves Aditya, but fumbles whenever he is around. Aditya, meanwhile, is dating a model named Mallika. Aditya is a conventional hero in that sense, but unconventional because of the con games he plays. The role is challenging and I am very excited about this. Is it true that the show took more time to launch because of the second female lead? (smiles) Yes it is! The production house searched almost every nook and corner of the city till they finally found Harsha! And I am glad that they did. Because Harsha is a fantastic colleague to have. Her simplicity and acting talent are working wonders for the show. Rajashree's character needs loads of sympathy and her face is perfect for that. She is quite hardworking and I am pretty sure our on-screen chemistry will be liked by the audience. But the irony is that when the director describes a particular scene between us, he always insists that there should be no chemistry because Adi (my character) is completely unaware of Rajashree's feelings for me! How has been your experience with the production house and specially with the new cast? I have working with them for more than two years now. Teen Bahuraniyan, one of my favourite shows was also produced by them. So it is like homecoming for me! I have a very good rapport with Hemal Thakkar (from Playtime Creations). When he was conceptualising this show, he called me and just informed that I had been selected for playing Adi's character! We are so close to each other, he did not have to wait for my response. And frankly, the role was so good that I had no reason to say No. My previous show Waaris ended abruptly but I guess such things happen in this industry and we have to take them in our stride. My equation with Yash Pandit is good and I get along very well with him. I still remember when few months back the media tried to create a rift between me and Yash, some people suggested that we should play on to it for publicity's sake. But I said no because for me negative publicity is a very bad thing. For me, work is very important and honestly I want to run away from any controversy! We have never seen you on any reality show. Are you against them? I am not at all keen to do a reality show. People who know me very closely are aware of this. I don't like when contestants fight amongst each other and do all sorts of things for extra votes and publicity. But I would not mind a decent reality show. There is too much of tension and politics in the current breed of reality shows. I do not want to sacrifice my dignity for any show. It is too precious. Couple of years back, there were rumours that you are keen on films. Any progress on that front? I do agree that I was looking at films at that time. But then later on decided against it. Movies is big business and to be successful there, you need to have your own brand. Right now I don't have that 'brand' attached to me. So it would be a big gamble for a producer to take me in a film. So I decided to work harder in television and establish my own brand on television before moving on to films. When are you getting married? (smiles) You are talking like my mother! I don't have an answer for you because I myself do not know. What I know for sure is, if I say I don't know and my mother reads this, I am going to get bashed up by her for sure! What are your future plans? I am not a big planner. Right now I am fully concentrating on Hum Dono Hai Alag Alag. But I am a dreamer and I dream king-size! I do hope to move to films some day.
