How did television happen?

I started off as soon as the television started! It was Doordarshan as that time, no soaps were being made. And later when serials came into being, I too started off with them. So it has been a hand in hand journey with television.

Did you face any problems in your marriage?

I am a Maharashtrian married to a Muslim. We got married in Arya Samaj and that's how we got Arya as our surname.
Well, yes there were problems as he was a Muslim and I a Hindu, but this a 40 year old story now!

Was your husband supportive of you working on screen?

I guess, it's only because of my husband that I have reached this position today. Had it not been his encouragement, I wouldn't have taken up so many shows.

We have never seen you and Shrishti work together. Any reasons as such?

This is certainly the first time that I am working for Shrishti who's my daughter in law. Well, earlier we didn't work together because there was no role slated for me as such. Today she has got a character which I will be able to don, and so I am here. And if the channel would have said a no, I would have definitely walked out, as we all are professionals here.

How different is Shrishti at work and as a daughter in law?

Well, it's just been a month that I have worked with her, so it's kind of difficult to say. But yes, I love working with sincere, hardworking and professional producers and undoubtedly she is one of them. As a daughter in law too, I have no complaints.

Does your preference lie in comedy only?

I have no preferences as such. Whatever roles I have taken up till date, have been very close to my heart. I have done all genres. If I have done comedy, I have cried a lot on screen too. There were some serials where there was no sight of comedy at all, but still I survived in the industry. This is because of my sincerity which I give to my character.

Any production house you're looking forward to work with?

Well, I have never wanted to work with any particular production house. Whichever production house approaches me has to be good to the crew, be well organized and sincere.

It's been a long association with Yes Boss, how has the experience been?

It has been four years that we all are together, and its definitely more masti than what you see on screen. Other than that, there is a lot of freedom, in the sense that we are free to give suggestions and there are no hard feelings for each other.

At the end of the day, do you feel stressed out of working so much at this age?

I am going to be turning 60 this July, and fortunately I have never did feel stressed out. Till the time I get offers and I can give in my 100 per cent, why not? The day I feel that I can not deliver that much, I will certainly not do much.

What's your take on the Kanta ben rage?

Honestly, I never thought that Kanta ben would be a hit. I used to think, what exactly I did, that it got so much of recognition. It was actually the production house, which promoted well, and presented it in a very good music, with typical music to go along with it

You were teaching for quite some time, how did it all happen?

Well, I started teaching very late and this is what I always wanted to do since childhood. I have taught for around 20 to 25 years. I used to teach Logic and Psychology.

If teaching was always on top of your list, when did the actor in you come into being?

I did one play, and then offers started flowing in. And when people were ready to adjust according to me, I couldn't ask for anything more. When I was shooting for Yeh Jo Zindagi Hai, we were shooting in Raj Kamal. As I was teaching, they used to send in their jeep for a pick up and drop. So I have always worked people who happily adjust and vice versa.
