I was a complete greenhorn compared to Krushna-Sudesh : Parvati Sehgal

Parvati Sehgal
Parvati Sehgal is happy these days and she reasons to be. The actress, who shot to fame as Komal in Pratigya, recently won the Comedy Circus Ke Superstars title along with her partner Kapil Sharma. The pretty woman spoke to TellyChakkar after winning the coveted title that certified her as someone with a funny bone! I presume this is your first reality show victory. Your reaction… Awesome! The feeling of holding the trophy with Kapil cannot be described in words. Even after our names were announced as winners, I could not believe my ears. It was a fantastic feeling. Tell us something about your experience of working in Comedy Circus Ke Superstars. I had to compete with people like Krushna Abhishek and Sudesh Lehri in the finals. And they are in the business of making people laugh for the last few years. Compared to them, I was a complete greenhorn. And I joined Kapil in the show a month after it started! (Parvati replaced Natasha Sharma) It was really tough to perform in the show. We had only 12 minutes to impress the judges and audience and mistakes were just not allowed. If you forget your lines, there is no re take and no one is there to rescue you. I had faith in Kapil and vice versa. I feel that is where the chemistry worked and we clicked! I must also thank the judges (Rohit Shetty and Archana Puran Singh) for their constant encouragement. It was my first reality show and I was nervous. Their encouragement really helped me. How did you venture into acting? My father is a retired Air Force officer who opted for early retirement because he wanted to settle down in Mumbai. My mother Seema Sehgal is a professional ghazal singer. I have an older brother. When the auditions for Pratigya were going on, I was quite chubby and took a screen and acting test for the part of Pratigya’s sister. However, since they were looking for a slim girl I was rejected. At that time I had also auditioned for a Deeya and Tony Singh show and was selected for the role. On the day I got selected, the makers of Pratigya called me again and offered me the role of Komal. Somehow I liked Komal’s character more than the other one and said ‘yes’ immediately. The next day I started shooting for the show. Tell us something about Komal’s character… Komal is very young at heart, though a bit loud and rude, but she is very innocent. She wears garish clothes, dark lipstick and walks in a funny manner. Since my on-screen brother Krishna is in love with Pratigya, he forces me to marry Adarsh (Pratigya’s brother). Unfortunately, I do not like Adarsh, but when I move to my in-laws’ place things change dramatically. In my family, women are just ordered around and not expected to have an opinion. However, in the Saxena family women are given a lot of respect and their opinions are valued. Everyone respects each other in my in-laws’ family and that changes things a lot for me. How easy or difficult was it to portray Komal? (Smiles) I am a typical Punjabi girl! Let me narrate an incident that happened on the first day of the shoot. My first dialogue was a cuss word, which I said in a typical Punjabi style! It was difficult because I never use swear words and it was quite embarrassing. But after my director explained to me that I need to speak it in the UP dialect, I understood and tried my best. I am also indebted to Arhaan Behl (Krishna) who helped me on my scenes. Recently Komal got a makeover? I am happy that Komal has become fashionable. Now I can wear stylish clothes. Let us hope as a person too she changes for the better!
