A majority of Pakistanis watch K serials, Yasir Shah

Pakistani model and actor Yasir Shah is here currently in Mumbai shooting for Balaji's Khwaish. Yasir, who plays Azaan Khan in the show, spoke exclusively to tellychakkar's Mayur Lookhar. Excerpts: Is this your first visit to India? Yes. It's a dream come true for me. I've always longed to visit this country and in particularly Mumbai. I'm having a ball so far in Mumbai. How is Khwaish viewed across in Pakistan? It's the number one show in Pakistan. The response in Dubai is equally good.
While, the show may be doing well in Pakistan and Dubai, it's faring poorly in India. Why according to you Khwaish hasn't done well in India? The only reason for it not doing well could be because its subject doesn't appeal to the Indian audience. This show was made primarily to target the Muslim viewers across Pakistan and Dubai. So, you think Indian and Pakistanis differ in their taste? There's no major difference but when it comes to subjects such as Khwaish, they will appeal to Muslims more. Plus, in Pakistan we can't touch varied subjects as it could evoke critical response from certain sections of society. Is there a positive response to Indian soaps? Indian films and TV shows are always a hit with the masses. You wouldn't believe but a majority of Pakistanis watch shows such as Kyunki Saas.Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. Few days ago, the chief minister of Sindh told me how much he's fond of Kyunki Saas.. But doesn't' the popularity of Indian films and serials kill the domestic market? Indeed it does. In fact, our film industry is virtually finished. The television industry hasn't grown much. So, what according to you ails the entertainment industry in Pakistan? Firstly, we are not good technically. Lack of support from the government makes it all the more difficult for us to operate. There is urgent need to invest more money. What do you have to say about Ekta Kapoor? Well, she's my boss. I have never come across such a professional person like Ekta. It's an honour to work with her. Now that you're in Mumbai, aren't you looking at getting more offers? That will truly make my trip memorable but at the moment, I'm very happy with my work in Khwaish. For me it's never the quantity but the quality that matters.
