Indian Idol 5 saw yet another surprise eviction in the form of 18-year-old Yashraj Kapil. But it could also be that the others are as judge Sunidhi Chauhan puts it “bahut zyaada aage nikal gaye”. The teenager from New Delhi bid adieu to Indian Idol 5 yesterday. The only son of his parents, Yashraj was always supported by them to take up a career in singing. In fact, he had earlier won a singing reality show titled Sitaron Ka Choona Hain. Unfortunately, with Idol, his stars proved unlucky. Yashraj spoke to TellyChakkar on his dream and future plans. After getting eliminated, you were looking sad. However, your body language was very positive. How did you manage that? To be very honest, I never thought I would be eliminated. During the shooting and also when the names were being called out, I never thought I would go out. My ultimate aim was to win the title, not to come in the Top 10. I was obviously sad and shocked yesterday. What went wrong? Was it the over confidence? I am not over confident. I am just confident about my talent and I believe everyone should have the guts and courage to take their talent forward. This is part of my personality. It was no different when the same audience helped me win my first reality show. I don’t think I have an answer to what went wrong. You have already won a reality show. Was that a reason? The audience may have wanted a green horn to get a chance… It may be or may not be. Our audience is very unpredictable. Anything can happen any time. Who are the top three, according, to you? Rakesh Maini is a very strong contender as he is improving with each day. He has the right voice and attitude. Then Sreeram, as he is aware of his talent and always gives his best on the stage. And finally Shashi Suman, provided he works really hard. What will you miss most now? Definitely the stage, the big screen behind us and the challenge of performing in front of three judges! I have learnt many things in the last few weeks which will definitely help me in future some way or the other. Talking about the judges, apart from Anu Malik no one really appreciated your voice quality… I don't agree. If you watched me in the first Piano round, I sang Tum Mile – Salim Merchant had only good things to say about me. I guess they are three different individuals who give their personal opinions as a mentor. We have to accept that whole heartedly and move forward. I have no regrets. Yesterday we saw you fighting with Naushad Ali. Was it all impromptu? Firstly let me clarify that it was not a fight. It was a healthy argument as I was trying to prove my point in front of the judges. The way I have grown up and the kind of person I am, I will never move from the point I believe in. What happened after that – everyone saw. I feel in a competition like this, we should all be open to feedback. Your best buddy in Indian Idol? Rakesh and Shashi, they were my room partners. I have very fond memories of them which I will cherish in future. Have you decided to shift base to Mumbai now? Yes. People are now aware of me after Indian Idol. I want to see how far I can take my talent forward. I have a dream of becoming a music composer one day.
