Ronit (Roy) is a very positive person: Pallavi Kulkarni

Pallavi Kulkarni

The beautiful Pallavi Kulkarni is all set to make a comeback on Indian television with Sony Entertainment Television’s show Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyar (IKNMP), hitting screens tonight. The show, produced by Balaji Telefilms, will see her paired opposite Ronit Roy. The two play a divorced couple in this love saga.

Circumstances bring the two together after 15 years of separation and how that creates a difference in their life will form the crux of the story.

Tellychakkar.com spoke to the lovely lady about the show.

What kept you away from TV for so long?

After Vaidehi, I got married and was busy travelling with my husband. I know it's been more than six years, but I was happy relaxing at home. I also had my baby last year and things were good, but of course somewhere I had been missing work, so when this came up, I decided it was the right time for my comeback.

Did Balaji Telefilms act as the drawing factor?

There had been a lot many hit and miss chances with shows but guess I was destined to work on this one. Ekta (Kapoor) and Balaji have a successful track record, and I have been a Sony TV actor, and finally, the subject got me on board. I haven’t played such a strong role and that has been the driving force for my comeback.

Tell us more about the character you play in the show…

I play Ragini, who is independent, strong-headed and a disciplined woman. I am really very similar to her in terms of self confidence. But Ragini is someone who has not been able to move on in her life. She has been clutching to her past somewhere in her heart, which leaves her emotionally vulnerable. But I am someone who believes in forgiving and forgetting. I am starting my life as Ragini and all set to live it in the time to come.

You are playing a mother of four children, so was there any kind of apprehension?

Not at all. To be honest, the way Ekta explains her character and shows; you are completely convinced (laughs). Moreover, the way the characters will be presented on this show is so different that I did not have any qualms. The look and the character are all so beautifully etched that I was excited to take it up.

What is your take on divorces?

I personally fear fights and quarrels and believe in solving issue peacefully. I think one shouldn’t run away from problems but sit and get done with it; that can only bring peace to one’s mind.

What was your first reaction when you faced the camera for the first time for this show?

The actor in me took over and I simply forgot everything and did my work. That’s the beauty of our profession and I am happy to be back.

Was moving back to TV an easy decision?

It’s not that I have had options of coming back as there were quite a many shows that were planned but something or the other did not work. This show was supposed to happen with me as things just worked out. And although there was a fear of leaving a young kid at home, everything has been sorted now. My family and the production house have been really supportive in this matter.

But how are you going to manage the busy schedules with a baby at home?

Even I was worried of the fact but then I spoke to my family and child psychologists to understand the right age for a child when the mother can go to work. Since he has just started play school, everyone suggested it’s the right time for me to get back to work as he grows up, responsibilities would also grow. My child at least has so many people around him; so it’s me who will miss him all the time.

How was your husband’s reaction when you decided to get back to work?

He was really excited. Since he was settled abroad, he had hardly watched any of my shows and my in-laws too are hooked only to Marathi shows. So they were really eager to see me back on TV and have promised to handle everything in my absence.

What about the reaction from the fraternity?

Even though I do not have many friends in the industry, everyone has been loving the promos. The welcome has been really warm.

Now that you are back, any plans of taking up another project?

I am someone who is comfortable doing one thing at a time; I am not greedy in that matter and believe in giving my complete focus to anything I take up.

How has been the chemistry with Ronit Roy?

Like many others, I too was under the impression that he is a strict professional. But he is a very positive person. He always enjoys himself. He is also a talented actor and that makes it quite a learning experience for me. He has made things quite comfortable for me.

And finally, tell us what kind of changes are you experiencing in the industry?

I think everything is much more organised, for the better. The technology factors have also made work easy and with a young generation taking over, more creativity is visible.

We wish the talented actress a successful second innings in the industry.
