AAP is the change that India needs today: Smita Bansal

Smita Bansal

Actress Smita Bansal, best known for her role in popular TV show “Balika Vadhu”, says Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) deserves to win Delhi elections 2015 because its leader Arvind Kejriwal has the “courage” to fight against all the social issues in the society.

Talking about the exit polls which after the end of voting Saturday predicted an AAP win, Smita told: “It's totally people's verdict. I'm supporting AAP in any case. The result of the Delhi elections is still to come out but the exit polls have shown some good sign for the party, which is nice for its future."

Asked why she decided to promote AAP, she said: “Arvind Kejriwal has the capability to deliver. He has that courage to keep his promise. If he is promising certain things to Delhities, then he will surely deliver. The issues that the party has raised in its manifesto, they will look after all of them. AAP is people friendly.

“AAP is the change which India needs today. People are hoping that the party will take some big actions on issues like women security and corruption. People needed one party which thinks like the common man and AAP does the same.”

The party faced a big backlash in the Lok Sabha elections last year. But Smita says the roots of AAP, formed in 2012, are in Delhi and that it will take some time to get recognition across the nation.

“AAP was started in Delhi and its existence is strong there in comparison to other states. It's not a national party as of now. It is a new party. Other parties who are working on national level have been there for years. They are old. So, it'll take time for AAP to attain recognition all over India,” Smita said.

Actress Gul Panag, who joined AAP last year, is also waiting for the result Feb 10.

"The only poll result that matters will be out on the 10th. Let's wait till then," Gul told.

Musician Vishal Dadlani, a strong supporter of AAP and composer of "Panch saal Kejriwal", tweeted: "AAP supporters, IF we win, we should not gloat, we should not put anyone down. Celebrate, yes, but WITH everyone. Show them what dignity is."
