Anil Kapoor, the most popular ‘Invisible Man’ of Indian cinema, brings back memories of the cult film - Mr. India. In this episode of Bollywood@100, he reveals that Mr. India was a very special film for him, even before it became a huge success. When the film was offered to AK, he had no projects in the pipeline, and was ready to play even short and middling roles. Under general circumstances no leading actors of that generation would have agreed to play a part of invisible man, but for him the situation was very different. Anil recounts that it was indeed very thrilling as he not only got the role of the protagonist, but the film name Mr. India was also very alluring. Jokingly, he says that besides, it was also a phase in his life, where he was a beggar and beggars can’t be choosers. The versatile artist reveals that his strategy behind the film was to promote himself as the lead actor of Mr. India, and keep the account of him being invisible a big secret. It was only when people got to see that movie that they found out about the ‘key element’ of the movie, the Invisible Man, which became a cult in itself. This film is special to Anil Kapoor as his brother and producer of the movie Boney Kapoor and Shekhar Kapurthe director of the film gave all they could to make the movie. Now that this movie is all set to be remade, who can believe in the fact that the producers had to struggle to get financers for the movie, and evidently Anil Kapoor gave away all his earnings as an actor to make this movie. Bollywood@100 is HISTORY TV18’s second local home production and tribute to landmark movies, legendary actors and fascinating cinematic glories that shaped the personality of Bollywood over the years. The series uses Karan Johar’s insider’s perspective in bringing out rare gems from Cinema handpicked through months of research.
