Being a single parent is very difficult: Rohit Choudhary

MUMBAI: Actor-producer and real estate entrepreneur Rohit Choudhary is a single parent taking care of his two sons, Sunny and Vikrant , who are now adults. He said, "It is very difficult and I realised this after my wife's death that she used to work so hard to run the house. I realised how hard it is to run a house. It's a very difficult task. But this is our life now, so I decided to live my life happily because it makes your life easier to live. I am enjoying being a single parent."

Rohit has seen a very tough time during his childhood. His mother passed away when he was five. He along with his three sisters and a brother then shifted to Delhi with their father who was into a government job. He studied in a government school till 12th then completed his graduation from Delhi University. He said, "During my college time I was very active in the student union. In the final year, I stepped into real estate. In 1994 I got married and it changed my life as I saw huge success, but in 2006 in a road accident, I lost my wife. It was a big shock for me and in 2007 I lost my father too. I know how I managed alone with two kids."

"I have struggled a lot in life. During college time I used to wear the same clothes daily. I would wash them at night and wear them again the next day. There was a time when I didn't even have Rs.10 in my pocket, but today by god's grace I have everything. Working hard for 10 to 15 years has made me what I am today. After I established myself I supported my brothers and sister also," he added.

Rohit runs a successful real estate business of his own and says when his kids were young he only used to work when they were not at home so that he could give all his time to them.

"When they used to go to school or tuition, that time I used to do my work but when they were at home I was always there with them and for them. They are adults now and help me with my work. They have become helping hands for me," he said.

Talking about his relationship with his kids, he said, "When I became a single parent and played the role of a mother and father both, we came close to each other. Boys are mostly very close to their mother, but in my case, it is very different. We became friends and we share everything. One of them is an architect and the other one is an actor. I never forced them for anything, they chose their careers on their own. My real estate business is also theirs. I support both of them."

But nobody will call you the father of two adults. How do you react to this compliment? "I feel very proud and more than me my kids feel proud. They get compliments that your father is so fit. Their friends sometimes even tell me to ask their parents to do exercise daily so that they can also be fit," Rohit signed off.
