Sumona Chakravarti has been around in the industry for six long years, but Balaji Telefilms’ show on Sony Entertainment Television, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain has become a game changer for her. Post cementing a place in the industry, the girl has been doing tremendously well in Sony’s comedy gag show, Kahaani Comedy Circus Ki. And now it looks as though Sumona is eyeing Bollywood for bigger success. In a brief conversation with Tellychakkar.com, Sumona talks about her present stints on TV and much more. Firstly, Sumona is all praise for the Czarina of television Ekta Kapoor, “She really knows the pulse of the audience. The ratings of Bade Acche.. have reached never-seen-before levels post the leap.” Ask her whether she would now portray a mature vamp in Bade Acche… and she is quick to correct us, “I do not know why Natasha is always called negative when she is grayish. And you will have to wait and watch to know how my character will shape up.” Moving ahead, Sumona aims to knock the doors of Bollywood one day and has no qualms in showing her skin on the big screen. “I do not know why we make such a big issue out of this. At the end of the day, we are actors and sometimes I might play a prostitute, a doctor, a housewife etc. One should know how to play it. Having said this, a lot depends on the script, the importance of the scene and how naturally it flows in the screenplay. If I am offered a meaty and interesting character, I will surely consider it.” Tell her that the ratings of Bade Acche… dipped when the extended suhaag raat scene was aired, and she is quick to defend, “We are hypocrites. The same TV audience which gets uncomfortable watching such stuff on the small screen laps it up when The Dirty Picture and Jism 2 are screened in theaters. I guess we want to act holier-than-thou in front of our family and do all kinds of stuff behind closed doors.” Before signing off, Sumona says that she is very happy with her journey in Kahani Comedy Circus Ki. “It has been a good nonstop six months of laughter and gags.” We wish you all the very best, Sumona..
