Gautami Kapoor is the perfect home maker and the best wife that Ram Kapoor could get!! And she has time and again proved that by being with her husband during his ups and downs. In a candid talk with Tellychakkar.com, Gautami talks about her successful marriage, her family and kids, and also on television of today. To begin with, Gautami thanks the wonderful audience for appreciating Ram’s work in television. “It’s absolutely exciting and it gives us a feel good factor to see the kind of popularity and fame that Ram has got. Actors always strive to get noticed, and for Ram to be accepted by his fans in the manner in which he has been is like an icing on the cake.” Talking about their 10 years of marital life, she says, “It is always important for the couple to grow together in marriage. Marriage is always a give and take relationship, and in our case, we knew each other so well even before dating. We were close buddies to begin with and that really helped us. Even today, we are each other’s best friends, and that equation has not changed at all. We have our share of fights and arguments like any other couple have, but we have learnt to forgive, and carry no grudges. We both have grown together and that has helped us. When he was in his worst phase and jobless, I had to be by his side. That was a challenging phase and we loved the struggle. We tend to make many wrong decisions in life, but I believe that if we have made the right choice in choosing our life partner, other problems appear trivial. And the bigger picture is that the couple is always together.” On the vast improvement in Ram as an actor, Gautami avers, “We both began our journey together. And it is refreshing to see the amount of growth Ram has achieved as an actor. There is a lot to learn from him and the amount of confidence he has in himself is enormous.” Talking about herself, she states, “I have been a working person all my life. I started working at the age of 17, and it is weird that I have stayed away from television for more than three years now. There are days when I tell myself that I need to start working again; at the same time there are days when I am happy with the life I am in. But the fact is that our kids are growing up, and kids of today’s generation want to be independent. Sia, my daughter is six years old and Aks is three and half years old. I have a fantastic support system at home, with my mother-in-law urging me to work. My mom is also there to provide me help whenever needed. And the support system in terms of the staff I have at home is very good. In fact, when I signed up for the movie Student of the Year, my mother-in-law took complete charge of my kids as I had to go to Thailand for a shoot schedule. And for my other movie Gin Liya Aasman, I had to go to Pune for my shoot. The best thing about me is that I am a person who will always strike a balance. Even if I accept work tomorrow, I will be within my limits and will take up work in such a way that I give time to my home and family too. I belong to the industry and I have to get back one day.” Ask Gautami about the role that she is looking for in television for her comeback and she states, “I want to do an interesting role. I have been offered many roles in the past few years, but nothing has fascinated me. One of the roles I got was a slapstick comedy and I wanted to take it up as it would have been a stress buster of sorts. But Ram has held me back from picking up anything and everything. I always discuss my work with Ram, and he has such immense experience that I cannot bypass him. In retrospect, I understand that I made a sensible decision in not picking up roles that did not suit me.” On television of today and on the young blood coming in, Gautami gives her point of view. “I have not worked for more than three years now, but with what I have heard from Ram and others around me, television is changing for good. There is a lot of young blood in television, and change means progress. Having said this, actors of today seem to have a short lived career because emphasis is more on quantity and not quality. The bankability that actors had before does not exist anymore. When I heard about Sakshi Tanwar cast opposite Ram Kapoor in Bade Acche Lagte Hain, I was thrilled. I knew there will be some substance to look forward to, and I can cry after seeing an emotional scene. Sakshi is a fabulous actor and to see her on TV is a refreshing change. In the same way, Mona Singh is doing a swell job in Kya Hua Tera Vadaa and that serial showcases the issues of today.” Lastly, Gautami is frank enough to say that many actors of her era have a certain block of not playing elderly roles. “I feel that many actors do not want to play a character above their age, and this is baseless. I feel actors should get over this block to be successful. In fact, when Ram got to know that there would be a leap in Kasamh Se, I got apprehensive to begin with. But Ram was the one who told me that this was a challenge in itself, and you cannot ask for anything better than this to prove your mettle. And Ram was absolutely right. I believe that if you are confident about your talent, you could mould yourself into any given role.”
