I am scared as an artiste but not as a performer: Kapil Sharma

Kapil Sharma
Stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma, who has tickled many a funny bone in shows like The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and Comedy Circus among others, is all set to enchant viewers with his humorous touch all over again in Colors’ upcoming show Comedy Nights with Kapil that goes underway this weekend. The venture will mark Kapil’s foray into production also. Divulged Kapil in a chat with Tellychakkar.com, “It is like a dream come true. I am thankful to Colors for giving me this opportunity and providing me with such a big canvas for my creative ideas. K9, my production house, consists of people whom I have known for long; we, as a team, are determined to work effectively. This was the best and may be the only chance to start off my journey as a producer.” The show, which will be a mad house of Kapil’s crazy family, will see Kapil playing himself and will portray a character of a person who starts up his magazine wherein he will be interviewing celebrities in his own entertaining style. Having being a part of stand up shows for quite some time now, Kapil said, “This is a new concept with definite characters but with different situations and entertaining problems.” Further, the show will have a talented cast boasting of some of the big names in the world of comedy. They will be portraying various roles like his diva wife Mrs. Sharma (Sumona Chakravarti), the meddlesome-filmy Daadi (Ali Asgar), the unmarried eccentric Bua (Upasana Singh), an annoying servant (Naseem Vicky), Kapil’s secretary (Soni Singh) while talented theatre actor and comedian Sunil Grover will don several unconventional characters throughout the series. Talking about the show, Kapil termed it as “one of a kind”. “The USP of the show is the interactive setting where I get to engage a live set of audiences. Making people laugh is an addiction for me and with a topical script and a great ensemble cast, we hope to bring to the viewers, a show they can sit back and enjoy,” he averred. The challenge, as he said is to answer the impromptu questions thrown by the live audience. The man who rose to fame with his stand up comedy in several shows has been a favourite among the masses with his light hearted comedy mixed with heavy dose of madness. Talking about having the show named on him, he laughingly says, “The happiness is like seeing your name on your wedding card.” On a serious note, Kapil explains that with him shouldering the entire show, there comes more expectation and nervousness. “I am actually a coward kind of a man. When it comes to work, I am scared as an artiste but not as a performer. Reason being, I want my audience to be always happy with my work. It’s a positive feeling,” he observes. Kapil feels that there is not any kind of competition among comic stars as they all want to make people laugh. “Apart from fame, money and glamour, the most important thing we earn is love of the people. They bless you to make them laugh and I feel that is the biggest achievement for an artiste and a human being.” Well said Kapil! Tellychakkar.com hopes that your show creates records and you continue to make people happy. Comedy Nights with Kapil starts 22 June (2013) at 10 pm on Colors.
