There was a time in the world of entertainment when our film actors, like Shammi Kapoor, would be out of shape, yet the public would love to see them on the screen. Now, it seems that the scenario is returning on television. Why do we say so? Well, check out Ram Kapoor; he is overweight but the janta loves him as Ram in Sony Entertainment’s Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. And guess what? There’s one more actor who has joined this elite “flab” club (yes, we are being sarcastic). Who is he? We are talking about Karan Mehra of Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Lately, he looks really bloated. An industry source quipped that his on screen wife Akshara (Hina Khan) has just delivered on the show and the effect is showing on him. We know it’s mean, but we are merely reporting, industry folks are saying it. On the other hand, another source while admitting the overweight bit said “it is fine as he is playing a normal Indian married man, many of whom don’t take care of their looks. The female fans anyway don’t look at him like a dude rather for them he is an ideal husband.” When we spoke to Karan about it he said, “I had been out of shape for some months and I had been unwell. But now I have started to work out again. It is important for an actor to look good. But yes, sometimes our tough daily schedules make it tough to hit the gym.” Hmm…we understand. But if you look from the other side, the show is rocking at the TRP chart. So who really cares… right Karan? Well, we leave it up to you.
