Life OK’s Ek Boondh Ishq - Review

Ek Boondh Ishq
Life OK’s new offering Ek Boondh Ishq (BBC Worlwide Productions) has of course garnered quite a lot of eyeballs with its hard-hitting promos. With the show launching last night (10 September 2013), we at Tellychakkar.com sat down to watch it… So how was the beginning? Does the show have enough ‘spice’ to draw the audience to see more of it? Get to know from our review right here… Ek Boondh Ishq to begin with, boasts of beautiful locales of Bhopal amidst which the prime characters of the show get introduced. First came in the fiery character of Kalavati, played by the talented actor Vishwajeet Pradhan.. The actor who essays a she-man indeed looks scary and plays his part really well. Whether it be the jhatkas and matkas of the man or the jewels he wears, he looks stunning in this role!! Talking about Chavi Pandey who plays Tara, she is seen as a strong independent street smart girl with a rough attitude. The girl is seen fighting with local boys and refers to her stall as ‘her papa’ as it has taken care of her family post her father’s demise..Not surprising that as soon as she speaks about her affinity towards the stall, it is pulled down for being illegal. High on sympathy, but low on logic, we feel!! And then enters our dashing hero Mrityunjay (Viraf) all dressed in his jail uniform, hands and legs clasped in chains and thrown into the dark dungeons once again after the court dismisses his bail plea. Arrested for a murder case, we are yet to find out the real reason for which he is in jail. The sequence where Tara goes ahead and fixes her own marriage with a guy she doesn’t even know, for the sake of her family makes our heart go out for the poor girl!! But the very next scene where a chunri flies off from nowhere indicating that her marriage is certainly on the cards looks really over the top!! We are also introduced to Nandini played by the beautiful Hunar Ali who flirts with her boyfriend Aditya (Dishank Arora) on the phone, lying to the extent that she is coming to meet him in her brand new SUV. In terms of presentation and direction the show looks promising with the plot moving at a really good pace. However, it has to be seen whether the makers maintain this fast pace as the story progresses. Talking about the overall plot where a father is busy looking for a bride for his son when the guy is locked up in the darkness of a jail adds to the intrigue value.. The overall cast is promising!! Newcomer Chavi though will have to work hard on her acting finesse as she tends to go a bit overboard playing her tomboyish character. Her costumes look perfect, but the loud character gives a made-up feel. Viraf on the other hand looks good with his silent angry young man attitude. But come on, a wig and beard so unreal? Can’t this be made better? We have not yet seen the man speak, but his intensity and well-built physique has already impressed his girl fans for sure!! What can one say about Vishwajeet? An actor of his calibre alone can pull off this strong role. The way he sings, “saiyan mora chehra na dekho” while being dressed by his maids lying royally in a bed is a scene not to be missed.. Talking about the negatives, there are a few amateur sequences and this coming from an able writer like Saba Mumtaz is surprising!! Take for example, the age old system of the girl being the sole bread winner while the siblings do not even care about her is simply ‘monotonous’!! The background score is too dramatic, considering the fact that the show has B-town composers making the title track. Overall, a warm start but a lot to look forward to!! But we cannot shy away without saying ‘Bohot filmy hai’!
