Madhoo enters 'Devi' as Ma Durga

In what seems to be a last ditch effort to get the eyeballs back, Sony Entertainment Television is roping in film actors in Devi. Rumour mills were working overtime that the show was going off air very soon, but seems the channel wants to drag it a bit more. Last week, we saw Nirmal Pandey and Alyy Khan. Now, Hema Malini's cousin, Madhoo, will be seen in the show.

Remember the pretty youngster on Ajay Devgan's shoulder in Kuku Kohli's Phool Aur Kaante? No? In today's celluloid world after a gap of almost five years when new chicks enter almost every Friday, we don't blame you!

But surely, you haven't forgotten the sensuous and righteous girl from Mani Ratnam's Roja who sooner rather than later, raised many eyebrows when she settled into matrimony and quit the industry.

Two daughters (Ameyaa, Keia) and six years later, with the support from her husband (Anand) and mother-in-law as she claims, Madhoo is all set to make her first appearance on tube.

A peep into her kitty reveals a film Kabhi Socha Bhi Na Tha, where she is playing the character of Radhika- a psychiatrist who meets five other characters who come to her for counselling and realizes that she is as vulnerable as her patients. The film stars Seema Mishra, Sandhya Shetty besides Debu Bhatacharya, Vishal Vatwani and Rishi Khurrana, and is being directed by Kallol Sen and produced by Rajan Saha and Kallol himself.

Going back, she was furious with the makers’ decision to re-christen the film as Love, Sex, etc. The lady was livid about not being informed regarding the change in the title. She had fumed that it didn’t even seem like the movie she had signed. The film is touted to deal with inter-personal and live-in relationships.

As of now, we hear off the cuff, the makers have gone back on the old title. The release of the film was expected some months back. Seems, a few hurdles have come up.

Also, Madhoo has a film called Kachi Sadak costarring Mukesh Tiwari and Rahul Dev. Sanjay Singh is directing this film.

Back to Devi. Madhoo will play Ma Durga. It's a cameo which, we hear from reliable sources, will require only two days of shooting from her every month for the next two or three months.

It's a sort of homecoming for this beautiful actress. Few would know that Madhoo and not Sakshi Tanwar was the original choice to play Devi. Before things could roll, Madhoo found herself pregnant and pulled away.

The forthcoming track involves Manish Goel's mamas (Nirmal Pandey, Alyy Khan, Suraj Thapar, Shiraz) praying that they lay their hands on Manish and Juhi Parmar's kid who, when born, will be blessed with the powers of destrotying all evils. No prizes for guessing that they want to kill the kid. That is exactly why they have gone all out to ensure that their 'bhanja' (Goel) gets married to Kalika (Parmar).

We also hear, Goel and Parmar will tie the knot in the serial, this Wednesday, 1 December.

It would be recalled that Parmar entered Devi after Tanwar opted out. Tanwar was unhappy with the way show was shaping up. She wanted the show to focus on her original character of Gayatri, the housewife. She did not want to be portrayed as a goddess and an incarnation of Durga. There was too much focus on magical and divine powers which had converted the whole story into a directionless facade, she thought. This all had increased after Aman Varma had stepped in and the show timings had been extended to an hour.

On date, Varma is no more in the show; he is busy with other engagements, primarily Indian Idol which has thankfully worked for Sony Entertainment Television.

On the threshhold of her new innings, Madhoo is looking as fresh as a daisy and fitter than before. We feel, she is slated for bigger things. Let's see what destiny has in store for her.
