MUMBAI: Having done shows such as Udaan and Vidya, Meera Deosthale is looking forward to another interesting project that will touch a chord with the audience. She thought, after doing these two shows with similar backdrops, she will get similar offers, but to her happiness, offers of different stories and characters are coming her way. She is auditioning for these projects, hopefully something will work out soon.

“Honestly, I didn’t think it would take this long for something to materialise. It’s not that I quote a bomb but livelihood in this industry has suffered big time due to Covid and sadly, makers are still expecting actors who have worked for long and made their worth to work for a very less amount. Even after getting so many offers, not being able to bag a part hurts sometimes especially when I really get excited about a particular project. But I always remember how I started and where I came from and believe that I have a long way to go. So I don’t let it get to me anymore and look forward,” she says.

Are you picky when it comes to choosing a project? “No... There might be one or two times when I have said ‘no’ blatantly but that’s only when the story didn’t move me. Otherwise, I love television and I am ready to play a protagonist in any project,” she adds.

Talking about the out-of-sight means out-of-mind phenomenon that is inherent in the entertainment industry, the actor adds, “I still haven’t come down to believing that things work like that. I get calls a lot for auditions. But yes, one and half years of my life and work period passed away at home due to Covid. You can’t just step out and go and meet people and give auditions. The options have become very scanty. Having said that, I love working and acting, so I will continue my journey. Meanwhile, I am also trying to stay active on Instagram.

On whether the feeling of being out of work gets to her, Meera says, “Earlier I was quite easy about it and used to think I would be quite okay if I didn't work sometime. But now I am not. I like being creatively involved and busy in front of the camera for hours. That makes me truly happy. So yes, I love my profession a lot. At home I have tried to keep myself active with hobbies and learning new things but that doesn’t even get close to the satisfaction of a good working day on set.”

The entertainment industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in today's time. “With new talents coming in, I feel it’s easy for them to get work given they work on a lesser budget. I was also new once upon a time and someone believed in me. Someone who has been doing a certain job is a time saver and you don’t have to teach them from scratch, and time is money. So yeah, sometimes the more experienced and talented lot don’t get their due,” she says.

So what’s the kind of role she is keen on doing? “I would love to play challenging characters. But I want to play a tv ki bahu/beti at the end of the day. So if I ever get to do both in the same show I would be very happy,” she replies.
