Shalini Sahuta has been successful in breaking the shackles of her earlier negative character in Sahara One’s Piya Ka Ghar Pyaara Lage to step into the shoes of the reclusive multi-millionaire Sonia Oberoi in Colors’ long-running show Sasural Simar Ka. The girl feels that her character in the popular Rashmi Sharma Productions show is very unlike television. “I am enjoying being part of the Sasural Simar Ka team. The best part is that I have a very royal look and my character is someone who you don’t get to see much on television. Sonia Oberoi is a very ambitious person and will get what she wants. All her actions are justified, given the troubled past she has had. She’s a woman who is lonely and likes to live away from the limelight.” Shalini who was earlier seen in Baba Aiso Varr Dhundo on Imagine holds the point that her character in Sasural Simar Ka is not evil at all. “Unlike my character in Piya Ka Ghar who was a typical vamp, Sonia is totally different. There is nothing that is negative about her. In Baba Aiso Varr, I played the bahu of the house who had a comical vampish shade. Again, in this show the girl was not evil and did not want to kill anyone. All that she wanted was to outdo the other bahu in the house and be the best.” The actress is at home with the Sasural Simar Ka unit. “It is a very professional and positive atmosphere on the sets. I am enjoying playing this role. The entire unit involving the actors and director were welcoming when I joined the cast. Most of my scenes till now are with Sid, essayed by Manish Raisinghania and it is fun working with him.” Shalini who has a slight limp on the show feels that playing such a character is a challenge in itself. “Initially, I was on a wheel chair after which I have been asked to walk on crutches. I found it a bit tough in the beginning, and took time out to practice off-camera. Now I am fine with it,” states she. Ask her how her character graph will go from here, and the girl immediately answers, “As I said before, Sonia is very ambitious. And she will exactly do what my creative team has planned for (smiles).” Shalini, keep up the good work!!!
