Comedy King - Pankit Thakker

At 19, he entered the TV industry as an intense actor and came to be known as a Love Hero, literally a ‘guy with a great heart’. Having worked a sizable part of his career in iconic romantic soap operas, Pankit has literally essayed the romantic comedy genre with aplomb in his career in Tellywood.

He is regarded as one of the finest comic actors of Indian Television. Despite the failure of his serials in the past three years and a subsequent shift to business, the actor has made a remarkable comeback recently with what he is best at- romantic comedy. And what’s more, Bahu Humari Rajni_kant has already opened with great numbers, being the No.1 fiction show on Life OK.

The Personal side:

Pankit Thakker aka Champ was born on March 14, 1979 in Mumbai,Maharashtra. He studied acting from New York, and married Prachi in 2000. The couple have one child, a son.
Pankit as an actor made his debut with Ekta Kapoor’s highly popular show "Kabhi Sautan Kabhi Saheli" in early 2000s. He acted in several serials after that, many of which have been a commercial success.

In 2007, Dill Mill Gayye proved to be a huge hit and helped him change his image from a brooding lover to a cute romantic lover boy that not only did well commercially but also catapulted Pankit towards comedy and launched his career as a popular actor of the youth. There has been no stopping The Champ, as he is popularly known as.

Perfect comic timing:

He played the lead cast in many serials in the 2000s, alongside actresses such as Anita Hasanandani, Manava Naik and Urvashi Dholakia. Some of his most loved serials include 'Kumkum’, ‘Special Squad’, ‘India Calling’, ‘Tu Kahe Agar' and ‘Kagaz Ki Kashti’

He sent the audience into peals of laughter with his perfect comic timing with a punjabi accent and a triple role in a Pakistani Remake "Kis Din Mera Viyaah Howega". He also shared screen space with none other than Bhagyashree in `Kagaz Ki Kashti’ where both the actors were seen romancing each other.

By 2009, Pankit had established himself firmly in people`s hearts as a popular actor of the comic mode.

Pankit played a villain`s role for the first time in 'Tu Kahe Agar' launched in 2002. Although the serial did not become a huge success, Pankit`s role in the show received many accolades.

After 'Dill Mill Gayye' (2007-2010) with most of his serials facing failure in the trp ratings, he took a complete sabbatical from television from late 2010 till 2013, apart from a small stint in short films for international circuits which went unnoticed.

Tryst with Business:

In 2011, Pankit made his foray into business. He formed a travel company, and became a franchise owner from Mumbai (West) of a globally recognized time-share company.

His comeback:

In a career spanning more than a decade, Pankit has worked with all the top actresses of his time including Anita, Urvashi, Juhi Parmar , Karishma Randeva, Kuljeet Randhava, Mansi Parekh and even with the younger lot like Manava Naik, Neetha Shetty and Sonu Chandrapal.

He is now all set for a second innings in Indian Television with Sonali Jaffar’s comic caper ‘Bahu Hamari Rajnikant’, which hit the marquee this week.

TV experts have already declared the choice of his comeback vehicle (a romantic comedy) as a ‘wise one’, as he is appearing with the subject in which audience love him the most.

From showbiz to dabbling in business, Pankit has done it all and being endowed with a rare comic talent that only few in the TV industry have mastery over, this youth actor has come a long way indeed.
