Star Plus’ recently launched Kaali – Ek Punar Avatar is a show that does not have the conventional heroine… Pitted at a slot wherein the romantic show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon did well, Kaali will have to gear up to the competition. As per the ratings that have come in, Kaali is still to make a mark for itself. Tellychakkar.com had a word with Producer Neelima Bajpai (Shakuntalam Telefilms) who exuded confidence in her concept saying, “Kaali is a concept that we strongly believe in. But the viewers have not warmed up to it right now. We are absolutely sure that the show will do well as it has a soul in it. Also, we have to consider that the slot given to us was earlier occupied by a love story; hence we have the need to create our own audience. The biggest plus point of Kaali is the top performers that we have in the show. The execution is different and we are hopeful that we will soon catch up on ratings too.” On the different concept that Kaali operates on, Neelima added, “We do not have the glamour quotient in our show; our heroine is a mother who seeks justice against the system. I feel the common man will slowly accept our show as it deals with a common man fighting against the system. We hope the serial will motivate the masses to fight for their rights and family.” Talking about the various different concepts that Shakuntalam Telefilms works on, the producer stated, “After Na Aana Iss Des Laado happened, we were very sure of not attempting that kind of a genre in our next show. And we made sure that with Sapne Suhaane Ladakpan Ke, we created a typical slice-of-life show, low on the Laado kind of drama. And now, with Kaali we believe we can spread a message to the viewers.” When asked what’s coming next in Kaali, she averred, “Well, as you know the central character of Nimai went missing and in the recent episodes, the truth has come out that he is dead. Vaani, the mother is crest-fallen and will now take the avatar of Kaali progressively. When a person is pushed to the bottom, the only way left for him/her is to rise and rise high. This is what we will see with the character of Vaani now.” On the probable new entries in the show, the Producer said, “Yes that was always planned. There will be few new entries that will take the story further.” We really hope a show like Kaali does manage to grab the attention of masses.
