Samiksha Bhatnagar is quite happy with the way her character is shaping up in the Star Plus show Veera (Beyond Dreams Productions). “I play a sweet homely dedicated housewife, Gurmeet who is Kartar’s (Sampooran Singh) best friend’s wife,” she informs. Coming to the current track, she says, “Gurmeet has had to have her uterus removed so that she can’t become a mother. Enacting the scene was very emotional as every woman dreams of becoming a mother one day. And the sky falls onto you when you get to know that you will be deprived of the pleasure of being referred to as ‘Maa’. While performing the scene, I came to realize the kind of agony such women go through and how society reacts to them.” Besides Veera, this actress from Dehradun is also essaying the role of one of the fairies (Vijdhar pari) in SAB TV’s fantasy show Baal Veer. “She has the power of electricity and is very strong,” she quips. Prior to this, she has also done a cameo in Kyaa Huaa Tera Vaada and also played a negative avatar in Sahara One’s Niyati. So what made you give your nod to Veera? “It is because this was for the first time that I got to play a Punjabi character. Moreover, Gurmeet’s character is very positive. It is interesting to bring out the agony of a lady who can’t bear children in an environment full of kids (Sampooran Singh’s children Ranvijay and Veera). This show is beginning to be appreciated by the audience; last week, we had touched 2.7 TVR and we hope that we will go much higher up the ladder. The effort of the children is also being appreciated by one and all.” Samiksha has also done a festival film called Apne Ghayal Indian. “In the film on rural exploitation, I essayed the lead role. My character begins as a 22 year old and then she ages and becomes a politician and tries to help the people. The film has already been released in Nagpur and some other smaller circuits. We hope to hit the theaters in Mumbai soon,” she avers. Although for the moment, Samiksha is only focusing on TV, she is not averse to returning to the big screen if a good meaty offer comes along. She also has no qualms about the fact that she is not playing lead roles on the small screen. “I think character roles are equally important and I have been noticed in all my projects be it in Veera or as Mona Singh’s younger sister in Kyaa Hua Tera Vaada,” she ends.
