Well, wait here, as you might see a General Non-Cooperation and Strike coming from the entire workers’ fraternity in the industry, from 6 May 2015. 

Well, we hear that a new MOU was recently drafted by the Federal Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), post the expiry of the earlier MOU drafted five years back. However, even after the draft was registered and sent, the Federation did not receive any kind of response from the six governing bodies. However, it is learnt that since no response was received till the last date of 16 April, the Council has now declared a Non-Cooperation and Strike to resolve the issues.

It is also heard that the bodies have in fact refused to adhere to the new MOU drafted, which apparently demands for a clear 50 percent hike in payment to the workers in the industry. 

When contacted, Kamlesh Pandey, President, FWICE confirmed the development sand said, “Yes, it is true that a MOU was drafted and sent to the pertaining bodies, with a last date of 16 April mentioned to get to a consensus. However, we received no kind of acknowledgement or an understanding to come to the table and discuss things and sort out matters related to the new MOU. There is a huge degree of inflation with every passing year, and there has to be a good working condition given to our workers who toil every day for nearly 18-19 hours. With the Federation getting no response from the bodies, we are now forced to go in for a General Non-Cooperation and Strike from 6 May. During this tenure, our workers will not participate in any work; but we will not stop the functioning of shows. If the concerned parties can proceed with their own men and continue shoot, they can easily do so.”

We tried contacting various Producers ruling the TV fraternity, for their take on this, but none of them wanted to comment.

We hear that the general feeling among the Producers’ body is that the hike demand is very unreasonable, and unwarranted. There is also a buzz that the Producers’ body has already cleared the fact that they will not abide to the new MOU. 

Well, this only means that TV viewers are now staring up at an indefinite strike, starting 6 May.
