Urvashi Dholakia's Bhojpuri dreams

Urvashi Dholakia shot to instant fame as the conniving vamp Komolika in Balaji's Kasauti Zindagi Kay. The credit for making the vamp the most talked about character in soaps can be largely attributed to her performance in Kasauti. Her subtle and nuanced negative role in Sony's Rishton Ki Dor (where she plays Noinika), furthered the trend. Now, the favourite vamp of the small screen will be seen in a new role, that of a producer.

The actor is producing a regional film Saas Rani Bahu Naukrani with Bhojpuri stalwarts like Ravi Kissen, Vijay Khera, Brij Bhushan and Sahila Chaddha. When we spoke to the actor about the new venture, she said, "I decided to turn to production as I have been in the industry for a long time now. There is always a stage in an actor's life when he/she wants to experiment with new roles. So, I thought about donning the role of a producer along with my mom." A natural question pops in our mind, why did she chose to do a Bhojpuri film instead of a mainstream one, to which Urvashi adds, "My idea is to entertain the masses. I think Bhojpuri has a vast audience and a fim in that language should be a profitable bet. Moreover, with the pioneers of Bhojpuri cinema on your side, the interest factor is always at its highest." Bhojpuri films have earlier caught the fancy of many renowned producers of our small screen. The Queen of soaps, Ektaa Kapoor is one amongst them. Since Urvashi has had a long association with Ektaa, did she benefit from her creative inputs? Adds the favourite vamp of the small screen, "It didn't really happen, but I have a great regard for her creative inputs. I would love to discuss such things with her." With the track in Kasauti taking a back seat at the moment, her Sony show is not a great story either. What needs to be watched is how the popular vamp of the small screen turns out as a producer. Since the film is still in its post-production stage, it will be couple of months before we know a sure shot answer on that. Till then over to you Noinika.
