When my painting became the talk of the town

Sumana Das
A page from the personal diary of Sumana Das I have loved painting since childhood. I used to think deeply before sketching anything. I think I was brilliant at painting, but no one ever appreciated what I did. But I did not lose heart and continued with my hobby, hoping some day someone would like it. And then around three years ago, I happened to pick up a copy of this magazine called Gurlz. I loved it and would pick up every new issue. One day I saw an advertisement in it saying a drawing competition was happening at the state level and one could send in designs by post. I immediately painted some models and sketches with Agni as the theme and sent it. I was sure I would be one of the three winners, but a big surprise was in store for me. My design was printed on the front page after the cover and my name was written in bold letters saying I had won the first place. I was so happy I showed it to as many people as possible. I received loads of compliments and became one of the hot topics at the place I lived in Pune. I used to sleep with the copy of the magazine below my pillow But that was not all I also received a nice Gurlz branded bag and a cash prize. The bag is still one of my prized possessions and I have even kept the money as my lucky charm. What makes me happier is the fact my talent was recognized and now my paintings adorn the walls of my house.
