Primetime
on Sony Entertainment Television will not
look the same come November-December. With
an impressive lineup of shows and soaps,
the channel looks ready to take up any challenges
that the Star siblings have to offer!
Indian
Idol2 will obviously be the channel
driver as far as Sony is concerned. Reality
shows have always scored in TRPs on the
channel -- be it Indian Idol or Fame
Gurukul, they have left stalwarts like
Jassi... and Ye Meri Life Hai
behind. Soapy tear jearkers have never
been Sony's USP; hard hitting shows, innovative
formats, and young stylised serials have
worked well on the channel. Besides this,
the shows from BP Singh's stable (CID
and CID, Special Bureau) have done
well in the primetime. Will BP Singh come
up with another winner on the channel? Only
time will tell.
But
the trump card for the channel has no doubt
been its reality shows. Indian Idol
saw unprecedented audience participation
and the sequel seems to be promising much
more. Unfortunately, the channel currently
does seem to be lacking a TRP generating
show.
Sony
has as many as eight shows lined up for
launch, each different from the other
| Dulhan |
This
show, produced by Cinevistaas, will
star Amit Sadh, Mahesh Thakur, Shonali
Malhotra Sonii and Kiron Kher. This
is a story about three brothers and
their trials and tribulations. (Amit
Sadh to star in Sony's 'Dulhan' ) |
| Paisa
Bhari Ho Gaya |
A
reality show one of its kind. This is
Sony's answer to Star One's Nach
Baliye, which is also a celeb driven
reality show. Produced by FBC Media,
Paisa...will make the telly celebs
sweat it out for a bag full of dough
in far off Hrishikesh!
(Paisa
Bhari Padega is Sony's new reality show!) |
| Kabhi
To Nazar Milao |
Starring
Cinestar Ki Khoj finalist, Sudeepa
Singh, this UTV production is about
a middle class blind girl, Sunaina. |
| Indian
Idol2 |
Now,
this is the big one! Auditions and publicity
campaigns have already begun and it's
now a matter of time before the country
is taken over by the Idol mania |
| Juana |
This
is the story of a girl interrupted.
Artificially inseminated with somebody
else's child, and in love with a man
she cannot marry, Juana is the story
of a confused and world weary adolescent.
Shakti Anand and Kanchi Kaul will
play the leads in the show. This show
will be produced by Shrey Guleri.
(Exit
Jassi, enter Juana????)

Kandie
Floss
|
This
is Ekta Kapoor's latest offering for
Sony. Not much is known about the show.
(Ekta
to rustle up a Kandie Floss for Sony!) |

Sony
has two more shows in the pipeline -- Durgesh
Nandini (Sony
to bring Bankimchandra's novel, 'Durgesh
Nandini' to screen) and another
chat show, Kehna Hai, to be produced
by BAG.
But
perhaps the most interesting aspect of this
primetime shift are the shows that are going
to be replaced. Batliwalla House No 43
is currently off-air, but the buzz is that
it might come back in a new avatar. Our
sources tell us that both Ye Meri Life
Hai and Jassi...are on their
last legs, so we have at least three shows
that might be replaced.
Then
again with other channels strenthening their
weekend programming, (Star Plus has KBC
and Ba Bahoo aur Baby and Shanno
Ki Shaadi), Sony too might look at some
shows that can make weekends interesting
for their viewers. Juana could fit
into that mould easily!
Afternoon
shows have done well on other channels --
Piya Ka Ghar (Zee), Saarthi (Star
Plus), Hare Kaanch Ki Choodiyan and
Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki (SaharaOne),
Kabhi To Nazar Milao, could well be
Sony's afternoon primetime bet.
