They
believe in practically every branch of occult
science known to man. Television folk, vulnerable
and gullible when it comes to belief in
matters of destiny, rely on astrology, tarot,
numerology and what have you to know what's
going to happen tomorrow? Did they also
check the stars when they got into serious
relationships? Riya
V Anandwala decided to find out.

Supriya Pathak, married
to Pankaj Kapur for several years now,
says she does believe in these sciences,
but never follows it. "Certainly,
there is some amount of power in the
stars. But I am not a hardcore believer.
I have never done tarot card reading
or astrology nor did I match our horoscopes
before I got married." |
| Pawan Shankar, a hardcore
believer, chirps, "I have not tried
them all, but yes I did try my hand
at astrology and palmistry. And you
won't believe it; it turned out 90 per
cent true. It said that television is
the best career for me. And it said
that 2006 would be even better and that
I would reach great heights!" Says
Pawan, "Before we got married,
I did match my kundali to my wife's.
It was never a problem for either of
us. Of course, not all of it was in
favour of us getting married, but once
you are aware of the ups and downs coming
your way, one can always be careful
in future. And we are certainly prepared." |

Ajay Gehi for sure isn't
among those who fall for each astrologer
coming their way. He says, "I agree
that most of these are accurate in their
predictions . But not always. As for
me, I follow my own philosophy of focusing
on my work, and everything follows.
Before marriage, I never followed the
tradition of kundali. In fact, my wife
doesn't even have a Kundali." |
| Two immense
believers in the occult sciences and
horoscopes are Amar Upadhyay and Tassnim
Sheikh. "I have an immense faith
in astrology. I have done all. Nothing
is left (laughs). A small body like
the moon has a lot of power to affect
a Saturn and Jupiter. Whatever they
have predicted for me, has been more
or less exact," says Amar. |

Recalling
his marriage, Amar says, "When
I met my wife Hetal for the first time,
I really liked her. And for us, matching
our horoscopes didn't really matter.
But my father in law did it, and they
clicked! My wife actually doesn't believe
in it. But I am a hardcore believer
in it as I have witnessed many incidents
in the past which were predicted and
were true," says Amar |
| Tassnim says,
"I am a hardcore believer. In Delhi,
when I was in school, I was really good
as a student and was on my way to take
up engineering. And that time, an astrologer
predicted that I would get into acting.
I was shocked, as I had never thought
about it. But since that day, my trust
in astrology started building up. I
also wear gemstones, pukhraj and ruby
suggested by Sunita Menon. As for marriage,
both Sameer and I had decided that we
would not match horoscopes, but a close
friend and astrologer Neeta matched
our horoscopes. It's a Hindu tradition
and I don't really follow it….but there
you are!" laughs the actor, who
plans to tie the knot with her long
time fiancé soon. |
 |
At the other end of the spectrum is
Vikas Bhalla. He says, "No, I don't
believe in any of these. I just believe
in the law of karma. I personally believe
that no one can predict anyone's future,
it is out of a human soul's reach. When
I got married, I didn't match my kundali
to my wife's. That is not because of
us believes in it, nor do my parents.
And I guess that's the reason I am happy!"
