Towards a better tomorrow

The New Year has started and tellydom is back to work. Hectic schedules, muddled working styles and innumerable roadblocks are an integral part of the industry. Does anyone look for a change? We raise this question for our actors.

Riya V. Anandwala finds out from them what they expect to get into shape in 2006.

Pooja Ghai

Pooja Ghai- Rabba Ishq Na Hove and Viraasat

The most imperative point is schedule. If that doesn't go right, the whole day is upset. Shooting that can pack up by 6 pm, actually packs up by 9 pm. I have been very fortunate when it comes to payments, as I do it on my terms and conditions. Then, people behind the scenes could be more organized, beginning from the spot boys! Three hours of our day goes in organizing nitty gritties like the make up rooms and other small things.

Kiran Kumar

I seriously feel that the schedules need to revolutionize. They have to be better planned. Apart from that, payments are again a dilemma. I think payments could be handled by the channel. When a serial goes off air, it should be the channel that should guarantee payments. They should personally talk to every actor and sort out the issues. This has never happened with me, but yes, I have seen people going through this.

Shruti Seth

Shruti Seth- Mum, Tum aur Hum

Firstly, working hours of a shoot should be regulated. Apart from that, scripts are a major problem when they reach us very late. There shouldn't be changes at the last moment. Besides the schedules and working styles, television needs to be more progressive. I guess we have had enough of those saas-bahu serials. People also need to shoot shows differently. The vamps should stop wearing those unsightly coloured contact lenses and tons of make up. I can go on and on…...

Reva Bubber

Riva Bubber- K Street Pali Hill and Kyunki Saans Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

Firstly, there has to be a decent bank of episodes so that we don't have to upset other schedules when there's a contingency. I guess once that's done, it will take care of other issues, like the hectic schedules and working styles. The production houses that I have worked with have been really careful about payments and Balaji of course is extremely prompt.

Reena Kapoor

Reena Kapoor- Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki

The production house which I am working with is really good and I have no problem at all. But I have seen earlier that payments have always been a problem, sometimes pending for 60, 70 and 100 days too! I have seen people shooting upto 11.00 to 11.30 pm at night. But at present, we wrap up at 9 pm. I am very satisfied with my current show, but yes I was dissatisfied with my earlier ones!
