India turns 60!

Its our 60th Independence Day... a secular occasion for all Indians…a day when we remember the unconditional sacrifices made by our brave Indian heroes. With the D-day round the corner, some of our telestars share their childhood memories, their plans for the day and what patriotism means to them.

Ronit Roy :
Fortunately I am not shooting that day so I will be quietly sitting at home and thinking of all those soldiers who have laid down their lives for the country. I will put Indian flags on my car and at home but will not play any patriotic songs since I am not too fond of them. Independence Day meant a lot to me during my childhood days. My mom used to make special food for me.This year, I will make sure that my daughter should know the importance of this day.

Patriotism: My country is my motherland. Patriotism makes me think of my own family So, the word somehow reminds me of my mother's unconditional love for me.

Message for the nation: I advise youngsters to achieve things which makes the nation proud of them. I wanted to join the army long time back but couldn't do so but all youngsters can still do that and make their country feel proud.

Rupali Ganguli :
This time I will celebrate independence day in a different way as my Ad agency Insync has produced an ad for the American audience that exhibits our country's traditions and freedom. I remember, during my school days, we students would polish our shoes and be spic and span for the assembly. I used to sing patriotic songs in chorus. Independence Day gives me a feeling of being `free'. Also, I will buy lot of flags and put it wherever I can.

Patriotism: My motherland,
Message for the nation: Just keep rocking our country.

Juhi Parmar
Since I am shooting the whole day, I am going to miss out on all the fun of the Independence Day celebrations. I love to listen to the national anthem and remember all those brave deshbhakts who lost their lives while fighting for freedom. As a child, I recall watching the Independence day parade on Doordarshan which was the only medium of entertainment then.

Patriotism: Freedom of my country.
Message for the nation: Our country is doing well and is being recognised all over the world. So, lets keep the good work going.

Abhijeet Bhattacharya
I will attend the Independence Day ceremony at Utpal Sanghvi School as my kids are participating in it. I feel that we are still not independent. Earlier we were ruled by Britishers and now by politicians. In school, I was never keen on participating in any ceremonies so Independence Day was no exception. I used to just attend the flag hoisting ceremony after which we all kids used to get sweets.

Patriotism: It is love and loyalty to one's country.
Message for the nation: Respect your country.

Satish Shah
I will be attending the function in my society. It will be a kind of a patriotic social gathering. I will listen and sing some old patriotic songs as I am very fond of them. My all time favourite number is Mere watan ke logon.

Patriotism: To be proud on your country.
Message for the nation: Make your country proud of you.

Annu Kapoor
I will attend the flag hoisting ceremony in Badlapur. Like everyyear, I will distribute sweets and flags to those poor children. I will also play old patriotic songs so that those kids come to know about their responsibility towards their nation. To be frank, this day is not special for me anymore. It is more like a holiday.

Patriotism: Love and responsibility towards your country.
Message to the Nation: Know the importance of your country.
