Remote Freedom!


For the common man, Independence Day is just like another holiday. Many prefer to sit, chill at home and get entertained by surfing channels.

A decade back viewers had to make do with whatever Doordarshan dished out. So the Independence Day parade at Delhi served as your morning alarm. Later, Gandhi, Shaheed or Kranti was the film that consumed your afternoon.

However, it's 2007 and with nearly 200 channels on air, and close to 50 awaiting I&B ministry's nod, expect your TV to be on patriot mode. Below are a few things that a couch potato shouldn't miss at any cost.

All the contestants of Amul Star Voice of India will celebrate Independence Day with a difference. They will pay tribute to those brave souls who have laid down their lives for the country. A short documentary will be screened where our Brave Jawans are shown talking about their experiences. The celebrity performances by- Roop Kumar Rathore, Sunidhi Chauhan, Hariharan and Alka Yagnik.

You've seen it umpteenth number of times and everytime you see it you feel it's alive. A day after you've celebrated India's famous Test series win in England, relive the joyous moments of India's first-ever test win in South Africa and the epic Natwest series final.

Starting at 1.00 pm on ESPN, soak in to four hours of nonstop action of the eventful days 3 and 4 of the first Test against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2006.
