The Amercan Idol is back!

The brand new season of American Idol is back exclusively on Star World, premiering with a two night, four hour event beginning on tonight.

With just under 43 million viewers and over 63 million votes during last year's finale, American Idol was America's number one rated show for the second year in a row and its popularity is only getting stronger. With local spin-offs in 30 different countries, the Idol phenomenon has taken the world by storm, each year gaining more momentum and fanfare as it determines the next big icon in music.

Auditions for the competition began in August and swept through seven cities across the United States. Tens of thousands of would be idols from across the country showed up for what was the biggest audition so far, and the preliminary reports are that the talent this year will definitely not disappoint.

Also back are judges Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell who will once again shatter the hopes and dreams of idol wannabes, while bringing their brand of constructive criticism and incessant squabbling, in trying to determine the next American Idol. From thousands of hopefuls, and a grueling audition process full of laughs and tears, only 24 will be picked to go onto the semi- finals, and eventually, only one can win a much sought after record contract and the title of American Idol. Already confirmed guest judges for the first leg of auditions include Olivia Newton John, Carole Bayer and Jewel.

The previous seasons of American Idol have already showcased a wealth of young talent that has collectively produced numerous number one hits and turned many of its contestants into house hold names. American Idol Alumni have also received Grammy nods with eleven Grammy nominations within the past three years, two of which were won by the first American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson. Last year we saw the salt-and-pepper haired soul singer Taylor Hicks perform his way to stardom as he led his soul patrol to win the coveted title and a major record contract.

This year join the judges as they encounter the stars, the untalented and the weird, during the often crazy audition process for the most entertaining reality talent competition.
So, who will become the next American Idol? Keep watching this space.
