On racist digs and Shilpa's dilemma

Media's hot topic of discussion - Shilpa Shetty being subjected to racial remarks in the Big Brother's den, has gives rise to a furore against racial bias. The media is abuzz with the ramifications of such acts that threaten the democratic maxim to the right of equality. As this glam Bollywood actor stands her ground and gains sympathies across the world, many opinions are doing the rounds.

We caught up with our own TV celebs for their reactions on this racial onslaught.

Yash Tonk

The racist remarks against Shilpa were a shocking revelation. She has all the right to protest and I would say that all Asian countries should come together to fight this prejudice. I would also blame the producers for inciting the racial factor in order to garner more TRPs. Despite the reality involved in the show, I think it would have made more sense had the producer chosen to edit such comments from the show. Now, Shilpa has the support of the whole Asian community and her stand against racism is totally justified.

Kanchi Kaul

I think the media is blowing the incident out of proportion. If it's really that serious as it is being said, then it goes against the ethics of professional demeanor. We all know that India is an emerging global player and such reactions only highlight ignorant mindsets. I don't think that the producers should try to intervene, instead the contestants who made such remarks should apologize on their own.

Kitu Gidwani

I think the issue is being blown out of proportion. Common, we as a society cannot boast of a higher moral ground when we have so many issues in our backyard that are a scary reality. I agree that the racial comments go in a bad taste and the British have a lot to learn about conducting themselves with the Asian community. But somewhere, Shilpa is getting unnecessary mileage out of the free publicity. I would suggest her to take the money and just shut up. This is not a nuclear issue.

Kabir Khan

Any civilized society would condemn such remarks. I think, it's not only about Shilpa but wherever there is racism it should be strongly condemned. Shilpa has the ability to stand up against such issues and the undue sympathy undermines her strong character. I agree that somewhere it appears to be a publicity stunt as the show is enjoying huge attention at the moment.

Karishma Tanna

I think being on Big Brother is not as easy as being on the reality show like Bigg Boss. Since Shilpa Shetty has a celebrity status and great looks to make others jealous, I think the racist remarks are purely because of these reasons. Although it's not a fair treatment, I still believe that she should not quit the show and try to come out as a winner.
